I've been meaning to post this on here for ages but my lack of progress would have been embarassing. am trying to motor through the jobs at the minute to get it back on the road for spring. time to have some fun in it i've had it for about 5 years now I reckon. it was a bit scruffy when I got it but solid all round with all the welding done and an engine rebuild before I got it. I took it apart for a respray but ran out of money so it just sat in my garage not doing much. I'm now going to send it in for a self prep, getting it painted bullitt green. I am going restomod style so not one for the purists but its mine and I love it. just waiting on some bullitt torque thrust style wheels on ebay will try and keep the pictures coming regularly this was how it sat in my garage for a few years concourse interior sanding down any surface rust from it standing for so long, treating it, then etch priming it. I should have stripped the car to bare metal all over really, in hindsight would have taken just as long. I was a bit slow taking pictures, this is where I was using barcoat on the car over bits where the old paint had come through to stop any reaction then in primer. major mojo boost when its all the same colour for the first time in god knows how long. hope you like it. cant wait to have it back on the road. apologies for the phone pictures, i've got a better camera so some time in the future the pics should get better. dave

I'm suprised theres not more of these on here. haven't noticed many while i've been hovering. have also got these in from the states the other day

Hadn't spotted your car before. Thats awesome. Can I be rude and ask where you got the wheels from? The reason I got the spacers is so I can either fit wheels off a new mustang otherwise some generic J box wheels as they are the same pcd as the mustang. Getting a proper set of torque thrusts will cost more than the paint job!

after sanding it all down ready for another coat of primer i had to sort out the front wings. there are extra holes from trim at the bttom of the wing i didnt want anymore so i welded them up and ground them down. its had a repair at some point and at least an inch of filler. i just took it all out and redid it as it was bubbling near the bottom. i took more out than this but forgot the picture lol had to fill in the aerial hole as well as i don't want a big messy one. will go for a discreet one on the screen then trial fitted on the car and repeat for the other side

I'm really lucky actually, my old man brought the workshop ages ago to store his hordes of old junk lol. Took me a week to clear some space to get the car in. The ramps cost a couple hundred quid for the 2 and we've never had a problem with them. Doubt they'd pass any health and safety checks but they've never caused us any problems. Would be lost without them. Much respect to all the driveway heroes!

Going to admit, after seeing this, I started hunting Ebay for parts for my heap, and thought of having a peek at what mustang parts were on there... got a set of 67/68 mustang rear lights for a whopping TENNER!! Lol, so I'm now 110% going for a mustang lookalike! But I can honestly say, I've never even seen a mustang in the flesh before, let alone had the pennies to buy one!

To be honest when i got it there was no way i could afford it either. Id just managed to save up enough for a lotus elan, the fwd one and put a swap notice up on ebay. So this owed me about £4000 at the time, that really was all the money i had at the time, i was stuck with a £100 mk5 escort as my daily for 2 years after that till i sorted my money's out. And it was chocolate brown! Worth it tho. Will have an update next week with all the paint on And restomod is an american term i suppose. Its basically any old car thats modified with newer/non original bits. Think most of the stuff chip foose does on overhaulin. I've got no interest in keeping the car original to be honest. Whenever i can afford it ill be sticking new bits on starting with the brakes i think. Also sourced a set of wheels for it from an 05 mustang as well. More pics next week

i found a local painter and got him to check out the car, the idea in my head was for me to prime and flat it again but the quote was so cheap i let the painter take it there and then. I towed it down there and i swear there was a hurricane, and with no screen or brake lights i was almost killed twice on a half mile journey! anyways, i'll stop waffling and put up some pics of her new coat! the job was fairly cheap and i know you get what you pay for but i was pretty pleased, its not a show winning job and hopefully when its polished it'll come up a bit flatter. should have stripped all the paint off in all fairness so ill have to take some responsibility. the car does looks pretty though Then disaster. this will take som explaining so you don't think I'm an idiot. basically when i parked the car up a few years ago, it was fine, nothing wrong with it at all engine wise. before i pulled it out the garage i tried starting it and it werent interested. put a live on the starter and wouldnt even turn over. so i took the starter out and took it down to a repair place, chap looked over it and had it working in 5 minutes. took it home tried it and still no good. took it back, chap took it apart again put it back together and it was fine. was getting slightly annoyed now but put it back on the car anyway. tried it and no good. decided the earth wasnt the best so put a battery lead on the starter housing and it turned over. bingo. but the car wouldnt start. checked the spark. nothing. so... put a live on the coil from the battery. got a spark so we tried to start it. a while ago i had decided i wanted a push button start and had taken all the wiring apart on the ignition switch. and then lost it! so got a new one from the states but couldnt find any instructions for it and none of the colours matched so i guessed the best i could and thought that my dodgy wiring was what caused the non starting problem. turns out it wasn't. the gear lever was in park, or you'd think. it was in the park position but between being left in my garage and taken to the workshop park had become reverse. heres the pics to say i was devastated is an understatement. this was literally within an hour of getting it back from the paintshop. i was too panicked to take an initial picture. basically it fired up in reverse and tried to drive off the ramp. the door was open and this is what stopped the car on the post of the ramp. lucky really as there was someone elses rolls royce behind it and if it had shot forward it would have crushed me against the wall. the damage was all centralised on the a post, it ripped all the welds apart and the bottom of the door was literally touching the floor. the door skin ripped on the hinge but luckily it didnt take the wing or the windscreen pillar. should all be repairable but still gutted. have since adjusted the gearbox lever and it now start off the key without trying to commit suicide. all sympathy or abuse is welcome

NOOOO!
Talk about two steps back, that is truly a kick in the nuts. As someone who occasionally kicks myself in the nuts you have my sympathies.
Bash it in with a hammer, bondo it back out, and get it back to the painter before it becomes a manifestation of self-loathing and you can't stand to look at it for the rest of the summer.
