Many of you will have seen this great van before which I've owned since 2005. I've been all over the UK in it from the very north coast of Scotland, much of England and even Le Mans. The tow bar is useful for towing, obviously and also for my motorcycle mount for carrying my Monkey Bike. The radiator has been rebuilt larger allowing for extra cooling to keep everything happy. This van is ready for exploring The UK, Europe or further
Accommodation is delightful and spacious. I am 6'1” and there's plenty more room for me. It's longer and wider than a double bed inside. As well as the middle row of seats swivelling 180°, all rear seats folding flat to make a bed, the rear seats fold away to make a massive boot area for bicycles, washing machines, a motorcycle, camping gear etc.
Various pictures from over the years
Heater runs off main fuel tank without engine running. No more chilly camping!!
These vans are just superb in snow. Just select 4WD, engage the hubs and away you do. Really dependable and you can go anywhere in 12"+ of snow!
This van is particularly rare in manual gearbox form and also this early CR30 shape. I literally haven't seen another. The colour is also quite pleasing as is the especially plush interior. Most seem to be brown tweed
These vans, in the similar Townace guise have a reputation for blown head gaskets. This is due to under-rated head gaskets from Toyota when they were made. You'll see plenty of these vans on eBay with overheating problems. The head gasket blows, they lose coolant, they overheat, the head gets warped.
I bought this van with a blown head gasket but it wasn't driven after that. I had the head skimmed to ensure it was flat, bought new Toyota gaskets and cam belt (receipts to support) and reassembled the engine.
The radiators are just about able to cope with British motorways so I had the radiator re-cored with a thicker core and it copes well with long journeys.
The standard tyres are car-rated which I don't think is up to the job so I fitted slightly over-sized 6-ply van-rated 195/80/14 tyres which helps with increasing the gearing for motorway cruising (happy at 65mph all day) and brings the speedometer spot-on accurate)
The night heater and curtains really make this MPV a camper van. My girlfriend made the curtains which are on runners and secure open and closed with Velcro to ensure complete privacy. The heater is the legendary Eberspacer heater all truck drivers and motorhomes use. It's a 12 volt DL1 unit and sips fuel economically directly from the van's fuel tank. You can run it all night (no need for the engine running) and it uses so little fuel you simply won't notice. On the coldest of nights this will heat the van from frosty to toasty! If you don't need this I will be happy to remove and reduce the price by £200. It's that good!
It pains me to sell this van as it's been really great for us and absolutely 100% reliable. It's ready to use and enjoy. Its turning circle is remarkable and with the mirrors, lovely light power steering and ease of driving makes it a doddle to park and use daily.
Cosmetically it's a bit scabby here and there, especially the bottom of the tailgate. They're still available from Toyota though.
