Here's some pics of my 1985 BMW M635 CSi.
One of 524 built for the UK, of which approx. 150 remain, many requiring restoration.
It's quite different from the standard 635CSi, with a 286 BHP M88 24 valve twin-cam engine derived from the M1 supercar, Getrag 280/5 gearbox and LSD. Other mods included lowered, stiffened suspension, bigger brakes and wider wheels. BMW claimed 0-60 in 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 158 MPH. Mine has a few tweaks which have taken the power output to 303 BHP.
Mine has covered 74K miles and has been well-cared for. It has had some new paintwork over the years, but the chrome and buffalo hide interior are original.
The deep-dish wheels were added in the 1990s by a previous owner. They are Rondell, 8.5x18 front and 10x18 rear shod with Pirelli P-Zeros.
It's my third M635 and without doubt the best example I have owned. They are rare, handsome (IMO), fast and practical classics – attracting a lot of attention on the road. Some parts are amazingly cheap as they are shared with the E28 5-Series, but bespoke parts can be ridiculous, like £400 for a rear light and £750 for a front wing. Fuel consumption can be 'interesting' but it always puts a big grin on my face - I just wish I could drive it more often!
I took it to the recent Meadowhall meet which was a great night.
Hope to see some of you at the next one!
