I'm also also thinking about "saving" another old car I saw, getting Dez to sort out its main mechanical failures.. I'd say step away from the 1956 Armstrong Siddeley...but I too could see the potential in that one!!! I've been looking at those for a while, but thats not what else was on the options list, that one needs too much work. Wow those 4 years have been hard on that car(and galls me no end using the completely wrong make/model for a movie tribute car). It just takes one guy and... I mean, his car, his way and all that, but damn he ruined a nice car. But then, I got it cheap because of that. Shame he lost all the history for it. That I can't replace. Holy heck, I missed this one? Thats awesome.

FWIW, I also had the oportunity to buy this car 3 or 4 years ago when it looked like this... Its been a hard few years on this one. Previous owner also seems to have thrown away all the trim and badges and all the paperwork the car had for its history. WAY cooler than a fake Bluesmobile this was originally an undercover cop car in Missouri....

That the one with slight issue of transmission slipping ? It’s a 4 dr version of uncle bucks car also isn’t it ? Thats the wrong-make-and-model "Bluesmobile" with the slipping transmission, yes. I've not seen Uncle Buck but I believe its some form of full size Mercury he drives in that. There's 2 statements about how movies ruin cars in one post.

I'm up to my ears in projects, broken cars everywhere. I am dealing with a guy to buy stuff for my "next big project" and had another semi-broken car delivered. I have no space so its stuck at my parents' house. When I was convincing myself to buy it I thought it would be an easy fix but now I have had it here for 5 minutes I can tell its going to be an expensive and protracted fix. The V5C-W is in Welsh and I can't transfer the ownership online so now I think "ah heck is this going to be another DVLA fight?"
I'm also also thinking about "saving" another old car I saw, getting Dez to sort out its main mechanical failures...
Wanna buy a bunch of broken cars?
Hmm?
Well, I don't think I am selling....
Its a disease...
I'm not the only one, am I?

My local hardware shop does mine. It slightly irks me that it doesn't seem to be any cheaper when I supply the blank to when they supply it! But meh. Its like a few quid so I don't complain.

I was thinking 'Interesting wheels, can't remember having seen them before'Like those aftermarket aircooled vw Empis, which came in five and eight spoke versions.
Those are quite the thing for Vauxhall scene, they are the factory "DTV Alloys" for the Firenza and HSx Chevettes. I dunno if you can get them as repros or anything now. To see 3 sets in one meet is quite something.

Also; I spent a ton of time going to page 401 of the readers rides page and working backwards. Wonder where all those folks and their awesome cars have gone. This is the sort of thing that keeps me up at night, what happens to them, where are they now? A while while ago Street Machine went back through their archives to try find some of the cars which had been in the readers build page (I forget the name of that feature - Garage Scene or something) and the idea was to do a follow up on a few of the cars from previous years. I think they scrapped the idea as so many had been scrapped, sold on unfinished, or still sat "on the back burner" The whole "Hot Rods and Customs Where Are They Now?" group on Facebook is a slightly sad trail of 50-60 years of cars which were cool as penguin parts but ended up being broken up or just disappearing. Even former feature cars in classic and vintage circles disappear. There is no permenant except the marker pens.

I'm interested in the results of that stripper. I have some of that weird black paint which just clogs the sand paper up to remove....
If you need it I can recommend a lovely powder coater in Heanor who does blasting as well.

You have to remember the fact that inflation has changed the price of everything before getting too lost in the good old days, I mean, have you seen the price of a Freddo these days? Local garage has bags of Walkers crisps for £1.20 - not for a multipack, one bag...
So there are still cheap bangers out there. They aren't Mk1 Escorts or Mk3 Cortinas but they are still out there. Fiestas, Focus, Honda Jazz and all that. According to the economic calculator Google found for me £300 in 1985 is £915.54 today, go back to the 70s and its even more of a stark increase with £300 in 1975 being worth more like £3200 today.
The cheap bangers of today aren't fun or exciting but then Mk1 Escorts and Mk3 Cortinas weren't back then either.
