It's my sad duty to inform everybody that ben has now officially given up on this project and sold it, I tried to help him, I tried to motivate him but to no avail. Its sad , very very sad. The humber will now be added to the long list of unfinished projects by ben. I cant wait till his next "project" starts . I love repeatedly towing cars around illegally and listening to his ridiculous excuses as to why He can't do the work................

I'm hoping to try it out tomorrow and with any luck I'll find some holes in the floor pan somewhere above the pallet so I can fix the shell to it.

So by using an old pallet and some swivelling castor wheels I've made a car dolly type of thing.

Thought I'd have a quick tidy up before I put her back on the ground, that quick tidy up took a good two hours!!! And it would seem I've got loads of curse word in here, which is nice. now she's back on the ground on axle stands , however it would be handy if I could move the what's left of my car around the unit so to make best use of the light and also because my tools and work bench etc are at the front of the car, so instead of wheeling my tool box to the car I'm going to move the car to the tool box !!!! Seems logical.

I only replaced the back half of the sill as after a close inspection the rest was in surprisingly good condition. So I've got that welded in as well , it took ages and isnt quite perfect as you can see in the pic , but its nothing some filler cant remedy. I've deliberately left the top section unfinished to make life a bit easier when I eventually fit the outer arch.

With work being a bit quiet atm and getting over the panic attack caused by all the rot I've managed to get down the unit a few days this week, I've got the car on her side yet again to make life easier to work on the sill and arch.

Mk2 xr2? Tell me more Well, I´d been poking around trying to find an XR2 (carb model) for a while now, but simply couldn´t find one. Tried all the Swiss Ford specialists, RS owners club Switzerland and so on, nobody knew of anything. Then 2 weeks ago the phone rings. Was a guy who´d contacted the RS club whilst trying to shift his car. Seemed an honest chap and local, although the description of the car wasn´t what I really wanted to hear - standing outside for 6 years, didn´t run, gearbox blown, some rot in the body, boot stuffed full of fibreglass stereo install and neon lights. The plus points ? Good original wheels with decent Goodyear tyres, clean seats, 135000km on the clock and he lived not too far down the road (about 30 mins drive). He wanted 500 Swiss Francs, which is about 330 pounds in real money. So I told him if he put the car on a trailer, brought it to me and he had been honest, i´d give him 500 for it. The next evening it arrived ! I managed to sort the engine and gearbox out fairly quickly. The car would start if you sprayed brake cleaner down the carb so I knew the problem was fuel system. Whipped the tank out and replaced all the rubber fuel hoses between tank, pump and motor. Poor pump had no chance to suck fuel with so many air leaks ! Shifter was stuck in neutral but would move left and right. The engine seemed to be leaning backwards quite a lot so I popped a scissor jack under the diff case and lifted it back up a few cm, all of a sudden, all the gears had returned ! I stuck an improvised bolt through the collapsed mount, stuck a decent battery under the bonnet and went for a little spin down the village. Drives reasonably well, no nasty noises and even the brakes worked ok. Spent this evening putting all the interior back together properly, riveting on the front splitter which had been removed and doing some hoovering out. All the stereo has been consigned to the local dump and now I´m not sure what to do. I have too many cars and unfinished other projects - mostly bicycles - and could probably triple my money if I sold it now as a runner and driver. However, I probably won´t find another one for many moons. Aaaarghhhh ! Whatever happens, if I decide to strip it and do the welding, i´ll start up a thread instead of hijacking yours ! Sorry about that ! Martin. sounds like a keeper! !! I want to see a thread for this car soon..........

Sounds an awesome idea, or how about those fake fingers that people use to stick on their boots so it looked liked they kidnapped someone
