This has been a long time coming as I got home from this holiday a year ago today but I suddenly find myself with a bit of time on my hands. We covered 2000 miles on this trip starting in LA, heading to Death valley then back to the coast via Sequoia national park but enough of the holiday, you can see that story here its the cars you are interested in. Be warned, this will be picture heavy. Day one was travelling and after the flight we stayed near the airport in El Segundo and car spots were off to a great start with this parked outside the hotel; day 1+2 7 by Dave Campbell, on Flickr Day 2 and the real trip starts. Left the hotel and headed down towards the next hotel. Spotted these on the way; More California car spots. by Dave Campbell, on Flickr More California car spots. by Dave Campbell, on Flickr More California car spots. by Dave Campbell, on Flickr More California car spots. by Dave Campbell, on Flickr More California car spots. by Dave Campbell, on Flickr One of the reasons for choosing this route was it gave me the chance to visit the Portofino Inn at Redondo beach which is the finishing line for the real version and the film version of The cannonball run. Thats me been to the start and finish line locations, More here rewoundandfound.com/the-cannonball-run/;Finished at the next hotel which was a bit special; Day 3 and we are leaving the Los Angeles area and heading east spotting these on the way; More California car spots. by Dave Campbell, on Flickr More California car spots. by Dave Campbell, on Flickr These were spotted in Victorville where we planned to visit the route 66 museum but it was closed that day :-( More California car spots. by Dave Campbell, on Flickr More California car spots. by Dave Campbell, on Flickr So instead we headed towards Barstow and along the way stopped at Elmers bottle tree ranch; More California car spots. by Dave Campbell, on Flickr More California car spots. by Dave Campbell, on Flickr Elmer's bottle tree ranch by Dave Campbell, on Flickr Day 4 was spent at Calico Ghost town so no car spot. I don't think that's the same car. It's definitely not the same car. As I said in the original post the Dukes of hazard were jumping models by that season so what your looking at is a model. It's just weird that somebody built something that looks so similar to the road kill car 34 years before it existed.

Stay with me, this is a strange one but it is car related. By 1985 the Dukes of Hazzard was in season 7 and by this point they were saving money and jumping models instead of real cars. Tonight on Youtube a compilation of clips from season 7 popped up and as I had nothing better to do I gave it a watch. Here is where it gets weird. This is a screen grab from one of the model car jumps; How did season 7 of the dukes of Hazzard have a model of the C body roadrunner from season 7 of Roadkill that wouldnt exist until 34 years later? I think I just spotted a glitch in the matrix. Dave

Just to let you all know I have not neglected my duties as the Monte Carlo correspondent for Retro Rides. Wednesday last week was the 9th Scottish start for the rally and after a few years in Paisley and Clydebank the start was back in Glasgow city centre. It was a really horrible night weather wise but I got there for 4pm to get pictures while it was light and I managed to hang about until the last car left the ramps at about half 8. Here are some of the pics (rest on flickr) and the video I took, hope you enjoy them, Dave. I'm not sure which of these I've posted before so apologies if I repeat myself but they're all relevant here. Really nice Cal Look Bug. This was considered low in the 80s before air bags and 20 degrees of camber became de-regeur for VWs Back in bout 2005 I bought a Beetle shell to build up for my Mrs. Turned out that after a bit of digging it was the first Beetle in the UK to have a set of Empi8 spokes fitted and was pretty much one of the first Cal look Beetles in the UK. Found this piece about it in the second edition of Volksworld; And this is an article from Bug power; I think that makes it the most 80's appropriate car I have owned. My wife drove it as a daily for around 5 years then we sold it on and I have never seen it since, wonder where it is now? Dave.

I have never managed to do it with my car but I did cycle into Glasgow city centre on new years day a few years ago to see how empty it was. Turns out it was like a ghost town;

If only this was an episode of CSI we could zoom in on the hubcap of the passing van and read the details of the mystery cars tax disc in the reflection.

As we are sharing key stories i have this one. About 10 years ago i drive down to vanfest in my vw baywindow camper. I was joined by mates in their vw camper that by this point they had owned for four or five years. On the Sunday they came back to where we were camped with a shiny new set of hub caps and they decided to change them over for the drive home. When they popped the cap off the spare wheel mounted on the front of the van they discovered that the previous owners had stashed a full set of keys there incase they were ever locked out.😀

I tried one of those and wasn't convinced. Never really flexed enough to grip and had a habit of slumping.I felt I was spending far too long sculpting the legs to the shape I needed then after time the joints all went loose and wouldn't support the camera. Binned it and got a small handheld folding tripod/camera grip.
