Quality.
Man buys Maserati in need of shedloads of work Man buys house in need of work Man buys van in need of work to help with work on house
It's genius.

Saw it on Stanceworks. It's wonderful on many levels. I love the riveted on arches and the fact that it isn't polished and immaculate. It makes an already beautiful shape much more purposeful.

Airbag light. The reason for rejection "SRS warning light inoperative" has been removed from the manual. If the airbag light is on it's a fail, if it doesn't work (removed etc) it's an advise an pass. The online manuals are all from January 2012 and still show it as a fail. It's useful to know though. Sending otherwise perfect cars to the breakers yard with an airbag fault would be insane.

Not really my cup of tea. However, I like the wheels and how they fill the arches, and the massive 1-piece doors, very much.

Yup next wednesday airbags and safety systems tow bar electrics as well and unsafe wiring or unsecure wiring will be a fail I forgot to enquire about towbars. I disconnected all the wiring on mine as it was a right mess. Presumably if I remove the ball and the sockets, I have no towbar and don't get a fail?

To briefly update on this, the Volvo passed its MoT yesterday (after replacement of a couple of bulbs that some idiot forgot to check). There was an advisory for a couple of slightly rusty brake pipes and nothing else. I mentioned it and he said "I keep forgetting to bloody look!". He showed me the bulletin they have about it going live next week. He's another who thinks it will send a lot of perfectly good cars to the scrapyard.

Am I alone in thinking that the 1st Gen Camaro is much prettier than the ubiquitous Mustang? Both of those are stunning

I was told that it is an advisory since the MOT changes have been delayed for now. But as said, why bodge it when in most cases the issue will take minutes to fix? IME the issue is generally down to poor contacts underneath the seat. Nothing a bit of switch cleaner cannot sort . Probably easier than taking the bulb out in a number of cases too! I won't be bodging it don't worry. I'm pretty sure the problem is as you describe, I had the seat right back and fully reclined at the weekend to gain access to the heater blower capacitor and it came on then. Unfortunately, on a Volvo it needs the right reader to a) diagnose the fault b) turn the light off once it's on. It's going for an MoT next week so I'm going to ask my MoT man if he can either read and clear the code or recommend someone locally who can. Failing that, I'll ask on the Volvo forum.

Absolutely cracking cars. I often wonder why I sold mine, especially when I think about the amount I paid for the newer Alfa 156 which replaced it and was nowhere near as good.

I am pretty sure what the problem is (the light comes on if the connection on the seat is disturbed in any way apparently) but on a Volvo the fault has to be cleared properly using the right software (that I don't have). I will get it fixed but it's useful to know that I don't need to do it for the MoT next week. I'll have a word with my MoT man when I take it to see if he can do it or recommend someone who can.

A guy on alfaowner.com tells me that VOSA have confirmed to him that the changes switch from being advisory to being a fail on 20 March (which is when my MoT runs out). Methinks it might be early this year.

I've read that as part of the (delayed) 2012 MoT changes, an illuminated airbag warning light is a fail. However, I vaguely remember seeing that the changes had been delayed again.
I've tried googling with no joy whatsoever but you guys on here always seem to know what's what. Is an illuminated airbag light a fail or an advisory?

I could have done with you a couple of hours ago when I was having a cow of a time with the brakes on my wife's Volvo. Welcome to Manchester, if you see an ancient battered Audi 100 Avant around, give us a wave.

Oh and absolutely do not go on Minifinity, you will kill yourself. Its a bit like walking into a local that nobody knows about apart from the locals... That bad these days eh? One of the worst hangovers I ever had was after a Minifinity birthday bash in the Lakes. At the time a lot of the members from various regions met up quite frequently so it did appear a bit cliquey. It wasn't, everyone was welcome, it just seemed it. Personally, I stayed well away from the tech section for the most part. There are a lot of Mini people who consider themselves to be world renowned experts on the subject and love to take the opportunity to belittle everyone else.

My neighbours are a reasonable bunch on the whole. However, inflating the odd tyre, offering a jump start, helping to dig cars out of the snow etc. helps to keep the goodwill flowing if you've got something noisy to do.
