Unfortunately the time has come to part with my Jetta. I’ve moved to London (from Glasgow where car is located) and I cannot afford to store it down south. Cannot justify owning the car to take it out twice a year so today was my last sunny day in it (unless the buyer wants it delivered ) 1986 Type 19 Mk2 Jetta Coupe – very rare 2dr with 1800 16v engine and box. Showing around 105,000 miles but was fully rebuilt from original 1.6 to 1.8 kr 16v engine with twin carbs around 2 years/10k ago. Engine bay fully smoothed, battery (brand new big battery with warranty) and ancillaries relocated to boot, top-fill radiator, SPAL fans, Facet fuel pump and pressure regulator with kill switch, short manifold, twin 40 DHLA Dellortos, 4 Branch exhaust manifold, heat wrapped, full stainless system, 16v front brakes, bearings and hoses. No expense spared. Bodywork is very good aside from one or two tiny spots, fantastic overall for age though. Weitec Hicon GT coilovers and mounts. Cannot remember the make of the wheels but lovely and wide with stretched rubber (all tyres very good). Centre cap stickers need replaced and some of the chrome on the rear wheels has lost its shine, there is nothing on the car that a bit of time/elbow grease couldn’t get to a high standard. MOT’d to November 2013, Taxed until August Classic insurance with Adrian Flux is dirt cheap Has never let me down but lack of use means she has got to go. I’ve found the carbs need balancing every 3-4 months (DIY or tuning centre) plus can take 10-15 seconds to start because of the fuelling system. Happy for viewings/test drives but it is unlikely to be me that shows you the car. Car is dry stored in Glasgow. Can deliver it to wherever. Can connect you with the guy who built it (in Northern Ireland) to verify details of the motor. Want £3300

the authorities have been alerted
without getting too philosophical (and i know this was done to death on here) but i reckon the scrappage scheme was a perfect example of the shift in the societal tide, crush your triumph stag and get a kia piccanto. an 11-plate crock of plastic curse word will complete your life and keep you on the right side of emissions regs.
keep doing what makes you happy and use the web wisely - don't post pictures of your speedo at 130mph unless you can prove you were in germany, don't install guns behind your grille then boast about it etc. having said that i reckon that editing for-sale ads so the reg plate is blurred out is overkill - you don't blur it out when you park it on the street!

to clarify - www.w124.co.uk/runningcosts.html plus i don't know anything about diesel mechanics plus i probably wouldnt run it on veg (around the country a lot, with a penchant for service station food) plus, most importantly - 150bhp vs 110. sorry for pulling this off topic. in short - good motor hope it sells

one month too early for me and this will not hang around long at this prices
recently done my homework on w124s and recently shat out of buying a diesel because aforementioned homework stuck the performance/mpg figures against this.

arch rot and make sure there's no water in the footwells
my good lady has a 1.7 and I pretend not to like it
been more reliable than my veedubs (admittedly newer) and good to drive. Arches starting to bubble though. Worth getting the bigger engine though, otherwise it really is a frocked fiesta.
visibility not fantastic either but overall good motors decent on fuel

Hmm the coupe thing is interesting, I've suffered the wrath of an E30 lover after calling his 2 door a coupe... Never again.
With this however my initial thoughts were 2dr saloon (similar vein to E30s, Vx Novas, Chevettes) but when I tried to do a bit of homework on them, everyone seemed to be calling them Jetta coupes. Raises the question of some interesting outliers like some 5 door 'coupe' or calling the 3dr version of a hatch a coupe (yes I'm talking to you Renault)
perhaps that's just manufacturers trying to hijack the kudos of the word?

the people have spoken! thanks all
everything that breaks gets fixed, everything that gets dirty gets cleaned. i suppose using it is a good way to get jobs done too - something that annoys you when you drive to work will get fixed quicker than something you meant to do before you put it away for the winter.
I'm off to look for some black 15" steelies

thanks for the input folks. currently bought not built but give me time - ive only had it 24hrs!
steels with winter tyres and and inch of wax is probably the way forward - if the carbs struggle with cold starts and or it starts to get marked in the street then i can reconsider.
richardtk - i am with you 100% on the multitude of things that could leave me utterly gutted talso agree that storage is a waste. thing is that i have literally just bought it so don't have that satisfaction of "oh well, ive had my fun"

so I have put a lot of time/effort/money into getting this to sit outside my house with the v5 in my name. now I was planning to just drive it properly and use it as my daily but I don't think I have the heart to do it. looking out the window at her sitting in a busy street in glasgow i'm freaking out about the state she'll end up in if I use it up to/during the winter. the paint/wheels etc are beautiful and the engine bay is mint (corrado 1.8 16v KR engine with twin dell'orto 40s ;D) BUT I am bricking it about using it as my main car. how do you manage to balance car care/using them without it taking over your life/spoiling your enjoyment of the car?

They are part of EFTA though which is separate from EC (or EEC / now EU). They are not however in the majority of EFTA states who are part of the EU's common internal market - the EEA.
I don't know what this means for tax at all (Switzerland has individual agreements with most EU states) so I'll drop the geopolitical mumbo jumbo and transform my trade agreement tedium into a free bump for a nice motor. Good luck to you sir

wonder what would be the outcome of a drag race of these motors pre- and post-reigeration?
tyres plus 1 sec aerodynamics plus 1 sec drain from beefed up alternator to run a massive sub/amp combo (manditory install with all reiger kits) plus 1 sec
being low, wide and plastic... timeless

ladies and gents got a 1991(j) vw golf mk2 1.3 ryder which has sat in a garage in glasgow throughout me living in london for the last 18months. the wheels/brakes have seized (cant move it yet) BUT i did manage to get it started last week (fuel plus jumpstart - you gotta love mk2s). the wheels are curse word and i burst a brake pipe moments after getting it running (slow clap) so unless you fancy unseizing it and moving the whole thing... call dibs on parts. bodywork is in good nick and pretty much everything is there. i am scrapping it next week so email me (michael sweeney 167 @ hotmail . com) or text/call me with what you want from it then i will do you a "quote". think i had it for sale on here whilst still tested so i'll try and find the pics. 1.3 sunroof 3dr green small bumpers. anything else just ask michael o77I7799499 for sale ad before i put it in the garage: (got lots of pictures) retrorides.proboards.com/inde...&page=1#903130
