I hope it's OK to share this here. We've finally made a charity page now the stress and fear of not completing the event has passed! If anyone wants to help raise some money for Motor Neurone Disease then please feel free to donate. We're up to £76k as a group right now. A share is always welcome too. 🙂 justgiving.com/fundraising/herazda2021

As a plumber I stumbled across a company called Todays Tools. They do loads of stuff clearly designed by someone who has found a problem and designed something to solve it.
You can't get some of their tools now. But you can buy suspiciously similar with different names on them, for a lot more money!

Looks like ferny has the job well in hand to be fair. I'm curious how you're stitching it. Are you using two threads, or one? I'm guessing you're hand stitching it too, I can't imagine it would be any time saving to remove, dismantle, and run the hood fabric through a machine. Single thread by hand. Ended up doing the entire length and it took the best part of two days. I don’t ever want to repeat this job again! Passenger side needs doing though... 😪 Needs a clean and waterproofing now. Not great, but it'll do!

As an update; It was recommended to use braided fishing line. This is tonight's progress before lack of light stopped play.

If that's the type with the hard plastic diaphragm, then that's what I've removed. It'd been on for about 3.5 years and I've never been able to get my AFR to read consistently. Recently it's been running lean without rhyme nor warning. It'd be fine, then decide to set itself at 18-1. I stripped the FPR down to find nothing actually wrong but decided to replace it anyway. It was on my list to upgrade and the cheap one was only bought to prove a principle. So far, AFR seem stable and consistent. I have only driven a few miles though.

no, pointless 'upgrade' stick an appropriate oem style regulator on and be done with it, you should never need to adjust the pressure on fuel injection systems. I'll remove the turbo and fit the original 60bhp engine back in then. 👍

Well, I got one.
I'll report back later with findings. I did notice that the bottom is branded Malpassi.

I think my eBay FPR is giving out. Well, I hope it is and its not the pump! Are the Sytec ones any good? I see loads for sale and it's a brand I vaguely recognise. Are there any better options in the same price bracket? It's going on a turbo MX5 engine.

No.
The starter will draw what it always has, so the wiring will be fine. You'll just have more capacity than before. Ideal if you leave it sitting for a while or do lots of short winter trips.

If you are taking the engine out of a car to fit into another one, I assume this is for the Resin Rocket, then it’s a no brainer to just fit a new cambelt, tensioners, valve cover gasket and water pump while it’s ‘on the floor’, total no brainer. Thanks Rich Yes it is for the RR I was given an 1800 and gearbox butnot sure there is much else. A complete car should help me with things like wiring etc. And doing the service otems is sich cheap insurance while on the floor. I understand from the seller it is a runner which is the only point I could start from really. I'm away this weekend but have plenty of manuals in pdf, including wiring. Let me know if you need any.

A seam on my hood has expired and getting longer. Does anyone have a recommendation on which thread to use to restitch it?

Hey ever-ray-body, I want to pick your brains.
I've just spent 6 days in Wales in and around camper vans and now the itch to own one is huge. I used to be a plumber (now teach) so I've had a redundant one for a few years now and I'll be using that to do my own conversion.
My question(s) - those who have one or who have built one, what are your main pluses and negatives? What is awesome and what would you do differently?
I'll be doing the whole conversion myself and it'll be great to get real world advice from genuine experiences before I dive in.

Blimey, that is quite a journey! We should be doing another in Sept for the midlands. That's nothing. The first weekend in October will (hopefully) see the car doing 2000 miles in 48 hours. Google "round Britain reliability run" when you get a free minute (yeah, right). It might give you an idea for a video - stupid things car people do, just because they can. Fuzz Townshend tried once it in a Spitfire and made it halfway. 👍

Really tempted and I'll hopefully make it. It'll be a 260 mile round trip and the Herald might be loaded with camping gear for my 250 mile trip to Wales on Sunday! 🤣

I like the look of this and I'm really tempted as I'm fed up of mikalor clamps or jubilee clips sticking to hoses. Is there a handy guide for the fitting type differences someone can point me to? It's that or keep browsing sites to see what's available.
