Freebies is the key I had a powerflow one made for the green one in my avatar, full stainless, twin outlet looks and sounds awesome however keeps breaking the mounts and has now developed a huge amount of corrosion on one of the rear flanges which can only mean that part is not stainless at all. As it worked out to over £400 I am not so impressed. Decided I'd do the next project with bends and straight pipes off ebay, weld it up myself and then polish. Priced it up and even like that it goes over £150 just for the pipes.

I'm doing something similar with my Dutton Legerra project but it's a 1300 xflow so need 1 1/2 - 2 inch max diameter, If I get any large bore stuff I can probably send it by DPD as long as its not to long. Where in the country are you lurking?

Lot of money's worth of DS' in there! That Avante kit car is a cracking looking thing. I have a feeling the moulds were on evilbay a while ago, doubt if it could be IVA friendly without a major re-design though.

I got to this a bit late but my 2p's worth... Dutton, all different shapes and sizes and they are original designs not replicas pretending to be something else. I'm biased admittedly as I currently own 4, one is my daily donkey. but i'm never short of an excuse to head out to the garage... The 'white' kit is an Avante. There are some nice ones on google images. don't know much about them or whats underneath but it won't last long parked in the long grass.

Cheers Chaps. That would explain why I couldn't track them down as 'parts' for cars rather than 'accessories'. Bummer Sender units could be a problem then. I suppose duplicating with the original ford capri dash would give me a rough idea of whats going on, wire them in one at a time and compare readings. I always expected issues with the speedo, The tacho is pulse driven so should work the same as the ford one, it would just be water temp, oil pressure and temperature that needed senders sorting out and testing. Guess i'll just have to keep looking for the others That one in Greece is a good find, never thought to search outside the uk to be honest (DOH)

So i've had these (some of them anyway) for 20 years +, they are beginning to show signs of age / rust and probably need to be re-homed asap however I have no idea what vehicles they were fitted to. I wanted to make the set of the orange ones and use them in my kit but with the ford senders and running gear I think it unlikely they will be compatible. I have two speedo's one reading 4 miles and one new one reading 1 mile, both have a separate knob on a cable for resetting the tripmeter. IMAG0493 by Adrian Southgate, on Flickr Both are 80mm and the 8000 rpm top of scale would indicate car (4cyl) not bike. The protrusion seen in the photo's is the handle of the old tankard I propped them in to take the photo's, not part of the instrument. Any help identifying the source vehicle would be much appreciated, finding the missing bits equally so. Failing that I'm open to offers...

Some of the rules regarding what you can and can't do to kits are a bit weird but any sort of chassis mod may cause the vehicle to require an IVA. It really depends on what you are using as a base/donor and who you get to do the first MOT after the rebuild. I know the old UVA sand rails are poor quality wobbly children's play pony poo but it may be worth waiting until one comes up for sale, there were plenty made, providing that was the sort of thing you were after. The thing to watch out for are chassis mods as even a suspension mounting bracket like a 5 link rear to replace leaf springs can be cause for the IVA to be required. Don't bend the rules. I know the IVA is a pain in the backside to complete but it's not impossible. A lot of todays kits are 'rebodies' using the same base chassis to avoid requiring an IVA, not something you can really do with a sand rail style vehicle.

So, 'nuvver update. Winter coming, supposed to be an apocalypse of snow evidently... So I decided to clean up those big steelies and get some all terrain grippy things to fit them. Got stitched up by an ebay seller who decided he wasn't going to answer any of my communications as the auction for his four tyres ended at £23 and I won.... Ebay ended up giving me the refund I didn't want and it would appear he gets to try and flog them for a third time... Oh well. Anyway more ebay shopping followed and I got these Camac retreads for £45 buy it now for four. Top seller lovely chap. Heres the end result. Little more road noise that the 205's on the rims I took off but steering and road holding seem to be stable, fuel consumption has gone up and I think the gross vehicle weight may have doubled...
