Have had a good day on the latest Largo today. Refreshed the headlights as they were very yellow! Removed the dodgy graphics on the bonnet and the drivers side and machine polished it. Needs a good wax once the passenger side graphics have been dealt with. Have decided on a grey rear corner unit for this one. The unit will be placed a little further back with a more central hob/sink and there will be a step out at the bottom to complete the bed making it a small double or a large single. Hope to have this one complete by the end of the week. Cheers

And on with the next one! did a deal on a 1997 Largo 2ltr turbo diesel today. Its being delivered tomorrow and comes with a full mot. Needs a good tidy up,cambelt and a service but already runs and drives well. It will have a hi-fi upgrade similar to the last one, a camper conversion in the rear as per the last one but this one will have a higher quality unit using a modular system. There will be a hob,sink,fridge,240v hookup,tv/dvd player. I will be changing the design so that a larger bed can be made, hopefully big enough for two this time. Hope to have it complete and ready to go by the end of next week.

Hi all finished the Largo today. Gas,water and electrics all finished.Had my first cuppa in her earlier! Spent the morning removing the last of the dodgy graphics and giving her a proper clean. Off to Whitby in her tomorrow for two nights and then she's going to her new owner on Monday. I should be starting another next week, this time with and end unit behind the tail gate and a rock and roll bed behind the front seats. Cheers - mike

hi there
the passenger side looks to be a factory hole, just clean up,prime and seal.
Other side doesn't look to bad, less than and hour to repair to a decent standard so I would worry to much.
Check the other side of the hole, there may be a reason for the rot such as a stiffener etc ?
cheers - mike

Hi there
yes they are a great little vehicle.
I spent most of yesterday swapping the rear axle. It was a complete pig as I had to remove the interior to get to the bolts holding it on.
The new rear axle is fitted and the camper now sits as it should, got new rear wheel cylinders, shoes and brake pipes to fit on Tuesday. I can then set to cleaning and refitting the interior.Even though it all looks tidy in the pics its in quite a state, the carpets will all be cleaned and then the units repaired and cleaned before refitting.I will also be fitting a proper split charge system and a leisure battery.
Apart from that it just needs the rear of both sills repairing for its new mot.
Hopefully finished and up for sale in a week or so.
Cheers - mike

Finished removing the graphics from the drivers side this morning, just needs a machine polish now, gave all the seats a good clean and sorted a few odds and sods out. Have now removed the nearside rear set, seat belt and trim. Spent an hour making the templates for the kitchen unit, they are made from 3mm ply and will be used for making out the 9mm ply that the finished unit will be made from. Have now got most of the bits I need to finish the project, just need to pick up 2 sheets of laminate for the unit. cheers - mike

Its not too bad, needs some welding on the rear sills for its next mot. I will rebuild the axle, new torsion bars and bearings. The layout is not bad, roof goes up, hob, sink and quite a bit of storage.

Hi all, got a 1998 Renault Kangoo 2 birth camper to collect tomorrow. Its a bit sad as a rear torsion bar has snapped so the offside rear is sat on the tire. On the good side its a 1.9 diesel, elevating roof with decent little conversion for 2. Should be a quick turn around on this one.

Had a few hours on the Largo today, cleaned all the leather seats, headlining and trim as it was all a bit minging. Fixed its rear roof light and started to remove about 60ft of "spare" cables. It has been wired for tv/dvd/sat nav/phone.
Went to the caravan breakers and picked up a few bits, interior light for above the kitchen unit, water pump and water container.
The hob is due tomorrow so should be able to make a start on the kitchen unit.

Hi there
I personally would only replace up to 10mm down from were the sill meets the door bottom. Cut the original sill 10mm down, joggle the edge, trim and fit the new sill to match the joggled part on the old sill.
Seem weld the joggled joint and plug well the bottom of the sill.
Advantages of this method are, invisible joint of new sill to old one ground down, little to no distortion when welding the joggled joint, more of the original structure is maintained.

Hi there
I know some of the stripes are original but still a bit naff.Have seen a few Largos without and they look much better.
I will be posting details of the conversion as I go, have done quite a few now, I'm probably going to remove the rear set of seats and then fit two removable units, one on each side. One will have a smev combined hob and grill with water and gas bottle in the cupboard below and the other will just be storage for possibly a small portable toilet amonst other things. On the offside rear of the Largo there's a 12 volt outlet so I will use this as the 12v feed for the charging asmall leisure battery via a smart charge relay.
Cheers - mike

Hi all not sure if there will be any interest in this but here goes! I am semi-retired and buy and sell motorhomes, campervans and sports car to pass the time. Today a picked up a 1996 Nissan Largo Highway Star, 2.4 petrol with 4wd and lots of toys. 47k from new with one owner since import. She's very sound mechanically but cosmetically challenged as she's covered in lots of stripes and other decals. Plans are to remove the stripes and stuff, sort some nicer alloys and do a rear conversion with one unit each side at the rear to include a leisure battery, inverter, sink, hob and storage. The front seats will be modded to fold flat so that it will still be possible to make a double bed or 2 singles. Have dome a similar conversion on a Nissan Serna a while back and it worked out well. Here's some before picks

well done. These engines are still pretty common in motorhomes. I buy and sell and come across them pretty regularly.I have workshop manual that covers this engine in you need any info and the alternator / water pump set up on the engine is very similar when fitted to a motor home.
