Thanks SR - I’ll have a look around that area. Sorry I can't be of any help with your request Jamesiecotter but funnily enough I was just going to put up a post asking if anyone knows of any car shows that cater specifically for French cars? Sorry about the hijack. Don’t apologise PP - get stuck in mate! The more the merrier Don’t really know why but I’ve got an irrational love of old French cars. I’ve only owned two, one I loved, one I detested with a passion, I have always owned German cars and have no desire to actually own one, I just really like them. That makes no sense I know, hence it being irrational...

Spotted this just ambling along in Alston last week while I was visiting the Lake District and Cumbria. Was a nice little surprise. Saw a DB5 in Windermere but wasn’t quick enough to grab a pic

This was mine til a few months ago. Remapped to 175bhp, lowered 90mm believe it or not on coil overs (did go lower but the practicalities of it being a daily family wagon made it necessary to bring it back up) and a healthy Genesis/Rainbow/JL stereo install was as far as I got with it. The remap and coilovers surprised quite a few drivers And this was the inspiration and how it was supposed to end up

Do any of you know of any French classic car shows in France or the best place to find out about them? Does such a thing even exist?

There is one on car and Classic at the moment green fastback 800 with lpg. Only thing is it’s a non turbo. Needs more work than I’d want to be doing tbh. Having said that though, if it was a turbo I’d probably be a bit more interested but in all honesty, my wish list is so huge I don’t think I’ll ever get round to owning one now unfortunately. Cheers for the heads up though Jim

Glad I am not the only one that sleeps on issues that end up troubling me to the point that I go back and revisit the issue with a more belt & braces approach Ha - the amount of times I’ve got to a point where I’ve just said “Sod it - that’ll do” then, sometimes within hours, gone back and sorted a proper fix! Another nice project Jim. Always fancied a dark metallic green fastback one of these

I can’t wait for the next classic car market price crash. I’ve got a few quid put aside ready and after spending so much time and money travelling round the country looking at “mint” heaps of curse word, I’m going to make people bring their cars to me to inspect, while I lie on a chaise longue stuffing myself with grapes and dismissing them with a wave of my hand... With Brexit that may well happen. I remember when my mate moved to Spain 12 years ago. Back then a reasonable car could be had in the UK for £1k, less if you weren't fussed about what it was. In Spain even a Volvo 240 was £1.5k, and that was for a rough example. Small wonder my friend bought an ST24 over here for £800. At the time that was considered expensive, despite it having decent tyres all round etc. It's a funny old world at times! Recently, RHD cars have become almost popular abroad as they are much cheaper than their local brethren. With tarrifs etc. in place things may well fall in your favour. In that case, how they voted will be a major factor in whether I buy the car or send them and their family to the poor house

How much is absolutely nothing? I’ve got a Saab Convertible itch that needs scratching but as soon as I start the scratch I notice all the prices seem to have shot right up from when I didn’t have the money... Been for sale for 4 weeks, 85000 from new and a full MOT, put it up for £1200 and I've had one text enquiry that offered me £900 but didn't want to travel to see it. I hate selling cars!!! High tax and low fuel consumption so people just don't want them anymore. That is well cheap and although the tax is a curse word take, it’s the insurance that’s putting the brakes on it for me - I’ve just put the reg into confused and it’s coming up more than my Porsche! Well that and the fact you’re miles away from me...

These are great cars but worth absolutely nothing and give it a few years will be a distant memory, I've been trying to sell mine but there is no interest in them at all so I reckon I'm going to park it up and wait until it's the last one left. 😆😆😆 How much is absolutely nothing? If it's French it's when it's there are 7 left on the road! So when they get to two years old then?

Think it’s just cars in general Ian. I can’t believe the money some cars fetch these days - it’s insane!

What a fantastic project. Will definitely be following this one. Can’t believe how much you’ve accomplished in just 4 days!
Another car on my “probably missed the boat now list” is an R33 Skyline.

And just by sheer coincidence, just dropped my daughter somewhere and spotted these just down the road from my house... There’s an old CRX in the same road as well but didn’t manage to get a snap of that

More memories - first vehicle I drove after passing my test was the firms ex BT Maestro van. Was a very nice classy looking dark green with gold lettering on the outside but still the bright BT yellow inside. Just reading through your thread brought back all the memories of going out on the road on my own for the first time and how scared I was Yours looks the curse word Alex. Have to say I preferred the MG interior but the rest of it is just so awesome. Never thought I would ever have cause to write this but that load liner is absolutely fantastic!

Haha love this thread - so many memories! I started my apprenticeship in 89 at a Vauxhall garage (Baker West Aldershot) and these were a staple back then. Then had one as a company car in my next job and no matter what I done to it, the poor thing just wouldn’t die. Was filled to the gills with ICE (til the night it was all stolen ) and although it would take a while to get there, it would do over 100 Went everywhere in that thing...
