Brilliant thanks gents.
The one I'm looking at is a classic Alfa red tan leather 1.9 16v Lusso. Haven't viewed it but looks good in the pics and the description makes it sound like it's been looked after.

Looks like I'm going to have to replace the family wagon and have always fancied a 159 but just wondered if any of you have any experience of running one as a daily? Ive read all the hearsay and conjecture on how bad Alfas are but are they really that bad in the real world?

Brilliant! Always loved these since my mates mum had a 16v GTi. Bought a 2 year old TRD estate in the early 90s to replace my Audi Quattro as a sensible family car and hated every second. Only had it three weeks and replaced it with a MKI Golf GTi.
But I've wanted another one pretty much ever since...

I was so wanting to see a splattered snowy under a wheel, a bottle of rum in haddocks hand with him behind the wheel and Tintin on his knees crying... Give me 5 minutes....

Well that's that settled then. The best one is clearly either the AA, RAC, Green Flag, the one you get with your bank account or the insurance company one... Nobody use ADAC?

Did anyone ever watch Trailer Park Boys? Canadian mockumentary comedy about two fellas who just got out of prison? Makes me think of "Ricky's Used Sh!t" where he gets people to drag bbqs, patio furniture etc from gardens to the road then drives down with a pickup and goes"oh look what people have just left out on the street? Well I will give it a good home..." Point being, you could get a mate to drag it onto the street then you can be a good citizen by scooping it up to save the DVLA the hassle and tidy up the neighbourhood lol! On a serious note, were you to vandalise it, nothing would happen. Steal it and weigh it in, you'd likely get away with it. Nick all the good parts off it and leave the shell, I'd wager there'd be little recourse. Nick it and ring it and sell it, you'd likely not get caught. Remove it as waste disposable in a clean up, likely no comeback on you. Adopt it and try to save the car from the above fates down legitimate avenues for legitimate reasons, fraught with potential legal comeback. I dunno if my moral compass is broken, but sometimes the temptation to do the illegal for "good" reasons is very high. Mind you, hand that story over to the Daily Fail and they would spin it so fast the earths rotation would shift and you would look like a scumbag in the light they would cast. Or just take it. Theft under a thousand you won't even go to jail. Even if you do jails awesome. Should get JRoc to fit one of those hockey stick spoilers dawg

^what he said. Posts dripping in condescension aren't really required. We've not all got hours and money to lose, or mates with garages ready and willing to sort things out. I can only consider cars that are offered locally, it doesn't make me any less of an enthusiast. I'm sure it wasn't meant in that way TD and I took it in the spirit I assumed it was meant. Glad you got my back though Bro 👍🏻

If that Citroen was closer to me I'd be all over that! You're in luck! It's a car, and can thus be driven back to where you are. I've spent far too much of my life travelling hundreds of miles to look at "mint" piles of curse word* to bother ever doing it again. If a cars not in a GU postcode I'm not interested *not suggesting this particular car is anything other than as described

I'm far more of a reader than a poster so for me it's to fill the void of cars I'll never have the time/space/funds to build myself, so reading someone else document it is the next best thing for me. I've learnt quite a lot on here too.
I do find this forum seems so friendly and polite and seems to attract far less nobheads than others as well. Although I do miss the forum feuds you get other places - I find them absolutely hilarious!

Didn't go to the gathering this year but other than my usual huge JDM dream, the Alpine GTA itch plus many, many more, it's not really a retro ride as such but I've suddenly got a huge want for a heavily tuned Saab 9-5 wagon...
