Notching joists like that was pretty much common practice for retrofitting central heating to houses built without it in the days before plastic pipe. You can’t feed copper pipe through a hole 60mm down from the top.
Notching the top isn’t ideal, but it’s way better than notching the bottom. Wood is stronger in compression than tension, so taking it from the top is taking it from the stronger edge of the joist. Putting floorboards back down over the top, screwed either side of the notch, restores most of the lost strength.

Hello. My name is Glen, and I am an addict. I just can’t help myself. 🙄🤣 Early start tomorrow, so I’ll fill in the details later. 👍

Whilst I genuinely have a soft spot for these old barges, I think you have enough on your plate already without taking on such a big project. That’s an awful lot of work to do outside on the drive.
But what do I know? I’ve just taken on yet another project myself. 🤣
Best of luck, whatever you decide. 👍

Will you need some sort of rubber for that exhaust mount? Might rattle itself loose. I thought the same. Trying not to nitpick though, I’m astonished at the level of attention to detail you’ve managed. 😃👍

Great progress, well done. 😃👍
I would think that it would be worth getting that pulled back into place rather than working around it. Whether you get the car to a body shop, hire/borrow the kit, or stitch in an undamaged body cut. Otherwise you’ll always know it’s under there, even if you do manage to get all the exterior bits on straight; which will be challenging.

Do you just want a heated gear lever? That made me laugh, on an otherwise pretty glum day. 👍

You need plenty of air.
Like all these things, it’s about hitting the right settings, and practice.

Whilst I agree totally with your contempt for the hateful red/blue/yellow crimps, solder is less than ideal in an automotive environment. The flux forms a powerful electrolyte when exposed to the damp, and the solder will wick up the strands of copper, away from the joint, and render what was a flexible multi-strand cable into a rigid single strand that’ll be prone to early failure from vibration. Far better to use either the plain screw terminal on the bare wires, the correct size bootlace ferrule, or a quality crimp.

It really does need them on !! Man maths would say alloy 4 pots are a safety upgrade . Sorted . 👍 Do not come to Retro rides for sensible car advice! Always rely on us to double-check the man maths. 😃 Personally, I don’t think that they work with the rest of the car being so stock and tidy… Your choice though. 😃👍

Rather than taking any risks trying to power the whole house from a generator, you could just run your freezer off it, a couple of lights on an extension lead , and charge your phone/tablet/laptop.

I missed out the last time Lidl had a similar thing on offer, and bought a slightly better one instead. I don’t use it much, but when I do it’s invaluable. I should have got one years ago. 👍

The Australian climate is very hard on rubber seals; they last a fraction of the time they do in Northern Europe. There was (is) probably a much bigger market for them out there as something that would need to be changed several times in a vehicle’s lifetime rather than lasting way beyond it.

Yeah, he lived. He drove like a loon though, and wrote off more cars than all the rest of us put together. I still don't know how he afforded it.

Mid-corner instability, coupled with teenage overconfidence, is the reason why my mate Richie wrote off two Dolly Sprints in pretty quick succession in 1986. if you look closely you can still see the huge vee of "new" bricks in the wall halfway down Gravel Hill going out of Bexleyheath towards the Black Prince where the green one met its end...
