Wow, I've never seen a handbrake boot like that before! Someone actually made the tooling for that boot and went, "yep, that looks like it!", and worse still, someone else signed it off rather than firing the fella and never letting him near car parts ever again! The car is coming on well, really nice.

If it's Pug powered, would a 1.9 turbo diesel bolt in? Tunable and economical?

I've always liked these up to the belt line. Even the windscreen looks good, but the one thing that I'd love to change is the rear roofline, turn it into a fastback type shape like a late '40's / early '50's American. Then the drop and wheels would look spectacular!

I've always liked them as well - unusual for group B car as it wasn't based on an existing production car. It did have a Sierra windscreen and doors (albeit with a few inches off the bottom though!), so just wondering if the MR2 based one uses the Toyota doors and screen?

Can't remember if I've already said this! In my drag beetle I ran drums all round with rear brake cylinders in the front and front cylinders in the back. Slowed down ok from 110mph...

V8 Jimmy does bring in some nice stuff. I did something similar with a beach buggy - asked my better half what she thought of them having just arranged to buy one. Bloody horrible she says...

John, for the price of them, I'd stick in a new set of valves, springs, keepers and retainers. I had a little 1584cc motor in my drag car for a while and when I had the heads off I found similar damage to the ends of the valves, and also some chatter marks in the groves in the valves too. Piece of mind, especially seeing the damage that a dropped valve can do - I've got a 1200 short block here with lumps knocked out of it inside due to a dropped valve!

I like the engine conversion. The Land Rover pump might just see my wife's Golf cab converted - we've been talking about it for years.

John, sounds like you're doing a great job, and Tom too! Torco do an assembly lube that is pretty good, but looks like you're past that bit! Nice to see progress, and love the Fugitive! Capable off-roaders, and great fun lowered with sticky tyres on the road too!
My brother has dyslexia, and a degree in Mechatronics from Wolverhampton University, and a job that takes him all over the world designing machinery for the food industry.
Having taught kids with dyslexia, I've found that coloured paper works well, not white, a coloured overlay to put over books, and if possible use a dyslexia-specific font on the computer, with the letters thicker at the bottom - stops the letters "swimming" on the page.

That's looking really special now Dave. A black '67 with a red interior is high on most peoples wish lists. It would look amazing on BRM's, with just a subtle drop at the front, just a dropped spindle and no beam adjuster?

Yes. My grandparents next door neighbours had one in the late 70s - it was huge to me!

You can use the bellhousing from a camper gearbox - it'll take the starter motor for test running too!

My mum had a 360 GLT about 20 years ago, it was the 2 door in that champagne colour. Most people hated it but it was really well spec'd and pretty quick compared to her previous Peugeot 309 diesel! I really liked it but you just don't see them around any more.

Could the top pulley be out slightly rather than the bottom one? Could be a result of the welded fan failing, might have bent the alternator shaft slightly? You really want to keep the equaliser pulley but make sure the bolt is mega tight - I spat one off my 2276 at the pod and it trashed the case and crank too.

I'm in Holland at the moment for my hols, managed to persuade wife and sister in law that we needed to see the Louwman Museum too. Funnily enough I missed most of the cars in your early pics, but the special display was for the Dutch police issue Porsches. Nine 911's from '72 to '96 or so, all Targas bar one late Cabriolet, a '68 912 Targa with the zip out back window, a 924 with T-tops, a 914/6 and three 356's. Of these there was a '62 B Cabrio and two 1966 C Cabrios. Apparently the Dutch road system didn't have any overhead signage so they needed a fast car that one officer could drive and the other could stand up in the passenger side giving instructions. Problem was that Porsche didn't offer a 911/912 with this capability when first launched so the Dutch police persuaded them to make a batch of 10 356 Cabrios in 1966! I'll see f any of my photos are any good when I get home!

I used a red TIM interior in a '70 I did for my cousin. The front seats are easy enough to recover at home (although it's pretty easy to get a slight twist in them), with just a little stitch at the bottom of the backrest at each side. The back seat is much more difficult - you need hog ring pliers, which I don't have, so I took mine to a local upholsterer. There's no backing board supplied in the kit for the back of the seat back, so he knocked one of those up and made a new luggage strap too. £60 well spent!

While you've got the Escort there, it would be rude not to try the five-spokes on the Cortina... I do like the idea of the Mustang wheels though, factory with a twist.

I wouldn't bare metal it - I'd satin black all the chrome parts and the wheels too, give it a stealth bomber kind of look. Compound charge it and maybe a sniff of nitrous too, get up to 600bhp ish?
