Few minor changes over the last couple of weeks, all cosmetic...
New steering wheel and chrome gauge surrounds:
You may be wondering where the centre console has gone... Well, the old one has been pulled out and I've constructed a custom one to replace it. I have deleted the clock and the now-defunct seatbelt warning light and trimmed it in plaid to match the seats. Wasn't sure how it was going to turn out but reckon it looks pretty cool.
Unfortunately forgot to get a picture of it finished and back in the car but I'll snap one tomorrow as I'm off to Peter Burgess for a tune up and a go on the rolling road. Hoping for 100hp!
how was it on fuel consumtion is it an easy fitment or do you have to make many changes from the su,s ie cables ,pipes etc
It wasn't too bad on fuel at all. Roughly got about 250-270 miles per tank (difficult to say exactly as I wasn't keeping track of fills and mileage and wasn't letting the tank run down before filling back up).
I didn't fit the Weber myself as it's something I didn't want to risk ballsing up so can't really comment on the fitment. I do know it operates without vacuum advance though. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Well done Sir.. .that MG is a beauty. Ah, road trips just can't beat em... makes me want to skip work tomorrow and head out up to Scotland and take in the open roads in my MG.
Your car and the pics and the road trip is worthy of an article in Petrolicious
Haha. Flattery at its finest! I appreciate the compliments mate.
It sounds awesome and makes the car more useable at higher revs and higher speeds. The price for that is it running a little lumpy at lower revs. Going to play around with it though and see if I can work that out.
Took the B on a bit of a road trip over the weekend. Left Nottingham on the Thursday morning and headed for the Isle of Skye, a few other places and then finished off at the Applecross Pass before heading home. Covered about 1,085 miles all in and only had one minor break down - the heater control valve decided to curse word out all of my fluid. I let the engine cool, manually closed the valve all the way, refilled the coolant and cracked on. Strangely, the running temperature was much better than any time since I have owned the car. Needless to say, a new heater control valve is inbound. Anyway, few pics from the trip...
New engine bits fitted, Weber, aluminium rad and Revotec fan:
Cargo net installed in the boot to keep all of my sh*te from rolling around
Packed and ready to go with new Petrolicious decal
It was at the point of putting the initial journey into the satnav that I was questioning my life choices!
Back-up nav and snacks
Entering Scotland
A few random ones from the trip
And finally a short bit of video from the GoPro. Apologies for the wind noise, this is the first rough bit that I've lifted from the GoPro.
You have some nice stuff there I like the sun visors where do you get them from ? Also will you get much more performance from that carb ? Car is looking great
Thanks mate. The sun visors were just an eBay purchase, search for "CLASSIC MINI SUN VISORS BLACK / SMOKE TINT ACRYLIC *NEW*". The performance gains from the carb won't be huge at this stage but will hopefully make a bigger difference once I upgrade to a fast road cam and stage 2 cylinder head in a few months' time. Doesn't hurt that the Weber looks the b*llocks. =)
Few updates with the Yellow Peril. The interior is mostly done now with the headliner re-trim, new door cards, rear seat delete, new sun visors, new doors handles, bolsters re-trimmed, etc. Just need to fit a new steering wheel (Moto-Lita) and some new chrome gauge surrounds which have been ordered from SVC a couple of days ago. Also went back to black seat belts as the red ones weren't really doing it for me.
And then I've got a few engine bits and pieces to be going on over the next week:
Must admit, I'm not completely sold on the quality of the aluminium rad. It's a £175 one from eBay as opposed to the proper £500 ones from Moss and the like. Will have a look at the fitment though and see how it goes. Properly excited about the Weber though!
I think we should assemble a "Leyland Outlaw" group of non-sympathetically restored/modified MGBs to take to along to the MG shows largely attended by the purist crowd. I know there's a few on here that fit the bill!
Could you paint or coat them black? I like what you did with the back seat too, it's the most useless thing in a GT!
That's the current plan. Although I may attempt to hide the hinge under the carpet instead. The mind boggles at what the original intention for that back seat was when it was manufactured!
I can vouch for the Gaz shocks. They're much better than some (the purist MG crowd) would have you believe. Need setting quite close to the softest setting though or they are too stiff for regular road use.
Agreed that your MG looks great though. Not usually a big Sebring fan, but you've nailed it.
This is flipping lovely. Really cool colour too. I'd personally have stuck with the chrome wing mirrors, but each to their own. Love the interior refit though, especially the hidden speakers. Giving me ideas for mine :-)
Cheers! Looking forward to getting it finished. Any pics of yours?
