Friend has Ferrari mondial which was at the NEC recently and did not sell dispite being cracking.
I really would stay away from exotica for that money. One problem or imperfection and your left with a pink elephant you cannot shift.
You don't have to spend it all and you can have money as a back up if you spend less. Maybe look at having a couple of cars a year maybe doing them up and punting them on.

What a outstanding coincedence .

I would not bother .
They will be horrible/difficult to use
Spares my well be a problem
It will make learning much more difficult
Not good value at all
Gasless is messier and more difficult .
Really only good for slapping bits of scrap together
Not very powerful , it will have a low duty cycle , which is the mount of time you can weld ata certain power- just because it says 100 amps does not mean you can run it that all day.
You really would be better of spending more , either by saving or paying monthly for something , and if you get it from somewhere like machine mart you have backup and spares .
Names to bear in mind are Rtech , clarke and sealey . Anything upwards of £300 is going to be better .
Its totally your decision but you will be seriously dissapointed with what your suggesting .

Thats either a idiot or some body messing around paying that.
And yeah , I'm sure its a darn sight cheaper and easier to rob the GM parts bin and build something cheaper .

100m beam with alength over 5 metres is still gong to flex no matter of your only 1.5m away from the end . Is it a flat roof or could you traingulate it above , say at 2 metres out so some of the load is spread sideways to other walls rather than all along its overly long length ?
I'm thinking about old industrial buildings as a thought if you have been in any . All the roof structure made of various bits of iron bolted together to spread the weight .

100mm doesn't sound up to it if for instance you were using it in the middle of its span . Also doesn't sound to good with it resting across the middle of the door . I'm wondering if you could bolt some more steel in to brace it and just use the block and tackle towards one end where its load will be transfered to the walls more ?
Would it be easier to put a new steel in somewhere above where you would be doing the lifting ? Something like a 6 or 8" beam beam ?
And I'm buggered if i can remember all that loading stuff an shear this that and the other from college either !

TBH i would be tempted to buy a car and maybe spend a few thousand on rare car parts . Some stuff you can literally double your money in 5 years for just having something sat in your shed for a while.
Obviously this only applies to certain parts for certain marques that you need to know about how desirable they are .

About 4 big garages in my town as well as a few smaller ones that are inconvenient to get to.
I have been to 3 of them on the same estate .Each time i have thought i have found a good place then they screw me .
Place 1.
Fixed a broken pedal at short notice for £80 i was happy . Mot time and i thought it would need lots , at least anti roll bar links . I was not really bothered i just wanted it fixed . Last mot of the day , it was in barely 15 minutes . Its passed they said , had to fit near rear pads .
Lie , and they missed the broken ARB links ! Didnt fit the pads either ! I assume its a way of getting customers who are so surprised it passed that they do not mind £30 for non-existant pads!
Didnt go back after that apart from when the others places were busy and i needed a alternator fitted which i supplied from eurocarparts.
Someone called me a few hours later screaming that i had got the wrong part and to get it f-ing sorted !
After much ball ache , and shouting i will not be going back there again ! Also did the usual of not calling when they said they would or saying my car was reading and getting there well within opening hours to find they have f'd off .
Place 2 .
Always expensive , with VAT labour works out £100 an hour !! They are difficult to fit you in , saying they have no time for 3 weeks which i think is a polite way of saying pee off. I had to get my mot'd there which was not a good idea . All the older guys seemed to be off so it was all the jack the lads with there chavvy new corsas running the place .
I told them to have a look at the car and tell me what it would need before . Instead they called me to say it had failed and needed two new wishbones at £500 .I had no choice but to go ahead .Then tehy called again and said i needed new discs and pads , i said how did it get through the mot then ? All went quiet . It will be ready at 5 so i got there ar 4.45 to discover they had f'd off as well ! Good job i had the next day off !!
Place 3 - went there out of despair at the other places to have my brakes done as a rear calliper was leaking . Really not bad , efficent , friendly and quick reasonable price .Got car back and 15 minutes later at 70 mph on the A34 my rear tyre shredded it self . Not hard shoulder so had to keep my foot down for 1/2 a mile and hope the wheel didnt dicintigrate .
Got pulled over and went to change the wheel and the bolts where barely finger tight . Got it changed , drove a mile and pulled over again. Checked all other wheels , all bolts not even nipped up !!
Went straight around there by which time my anger had subsided and i was getting a bit of a shaky leg from delayed shock or something . They got me a new [ wibblepoo] tyre and agreed to service my car ...
All bloody shocking really ! My main bugbear is the attitude that a lot of places have that they are doing you a favour by fixing your car and how bloody miserable they are.

I would just get a new modern like a hyundai or something . Work out what will do the job you need for the most reasonable amount of repayment every month . Its cheaper paying £100-£150 a month for a nice new car thats good on fuel and wont break down , rather than a 3-4k car which will need more spending on it .
MOT TAX Higher fuel bills Servicing Cambelts tyres depriciation

I came across similar as a kid. A old curved metal ww2 building with about 10 old cars in. Not sure what but they were of the rolls Royce phantom Sort.
Another place was a couple if farm buildings big enclosed barns. It had about 40 cars in. All old rally cars or old sort of 50s 60s race cars. Coopers and f5000? Cars.
All covered in dust but in giid condition. Must have been a slightly neglected private collection.

I don't think thats true myself. I enjoy reading about the Escort estate thats being done up by Mercdan68 and his son.
I find it interesting as he doesnt have a unlimited budget and he is turning around neglected old cars applying a bit of tlc and money in the right place and having fun .
I find stuff like that balances out some of the more full on stuff . The reality is a lot of us do not have access to lots of =equipment , space etc to do complicated work .
By having this thread do we think more of what we want will miraculously appear or is stuff going to start being deleted or canned because its not 'right' what ever that is ?
Genuine points for debate , not trying to stir etc .

I'm guessing either stripped [ to much work]
Rear removed and sold converted to pickup recovery to disguise
Sold to [un]suspecting 'person' to ' race' around a track and smash up .
Hopefully someone will contact the local papers, facebook pages and make to much heat for anyone to do anythng with it

What goes through some peoples minds i do not know .
When you add up what you would hope to make in profit it seems even more foolish - hopefully they are so foolish they will be caught .
Whats even worse is the fact some low life will only make maybe a few hundred quid but some ones irreplacable pride and joy is gone

Only yesterday i saw a XR3I on ebay that was on over 1.9k so far and it had been in a barn for 20 years .Absolutely filthy and rusty , its going to be a complete heap , but the barn find factor has made people loose there s... over it .
Makes me laugh that there are better ones on there for less which will have been used more often so will no doubt save a lot of money on seized items ,perished hoses, fuel lines ,bushes etc

Maybe when you move it in a certain way , like a crack in the gas line that opens and closes.
I admit it is a funny set of symptoms . If evrything else is ok i would google to see if anyone else has had a problem . I gather a few of these diy welding sets have componenets pop on the boards every now and again and the savvy people can just replace a reisistor fro pennies instead of buying a new board .
Not saying thats the problem but it could be if everything else is fine .
Check your earth is not frayed or ' cooked ' [ brittle sort of over heated wire]
