Could someone tell me why everyone is talking about inspections ? If its registered will it not just go for a MOT and thats that ? Awesome project anyway , i really like gt6's but always thought they could do with more poke. I think that may be my fault by not saying it is already registered. Going along everyone’s input ( which I appreciate massively) il be ok as I’m not planning to swap in modern suspension but just improve a already quite neat design. Have driven gt6’s and actually raced a tuned up one I always thought they could do with more “poke” and a modern gearbox if it’s to be jumped in for a spirited cruise at the weekend. 200-250 would keep it lively without being daft and be reliable too. Even if you do modify it surely you just go and get it mot'd and its ok ? I doubt the mot guys are interested if its got lowered suspension or a different engine .

Awesome project anyway , i really like gt6's but always thought they could do with more poke. There's a points system that modified cars need to adhere to if you want to retain their registration/identity That means that you have to retain certain items and various important parts of the car count towards your points total. You must use an unmodified chassis or monocoque (in this case chassis as the body shell isn't structural) If not, then you can get around it by having the car inspected (IVA test) but this is a tougher route than keeping enough points. All aspects of the vehicle have to pass, not just the bits you have changed or modified. There is a biiig thread on here of a Ford popular that was built to pass IVA. Surely though the o.p just fixes it up and takes it for a MOT ? MOT inspectors are not going to be inspecting it are they ? Why does he have to take it for a inspection as no-one is going to be any the wiser what he has done ?

Granadas are relatively low value for Fords , I'm sure we all know where they end up .
I would not discount breaking them , if you have friends away from the area to sell the parts .
Who knows .

Because its a self perpetuating circle.
More get stolen , the less they are , the more the price goes up , which makes them more desirable to steal.
The fact people pay stupid money for parts without asking counts for a lot . Even buying shells with no i.d .

It will be significantly harder but its not impossible. Just take a fair bit longer .
All i was mentioning with polishing is that you will have to spend ages getting the file marks out.
If your really serious buy a 90 degree air die grinder and get some roloc discs in red and blue before you even think of starting to polish it with anything .
Is it worth buying one and modifying the tube pieces that it mounts on ? Then all you have to do is modify them which will be easier to weld and polish up rather than trying to polish thin bar which will most likely snatch at what ever your using to polish it with ?

TBH i wouldn't bother , you can buy one for £65 at the first place i looked . The time and effort polishing and forming and then mig weldeing it which will look nasty . It will never look as good as a bought one unless you have a lot of time to spend.

I take it your Tig welding ?
Most of the discolouration will come off with a stiff wire brushing .
I would try to polish the bar before you make it as it will be much more difficult when its made . I take it you have a polishing wheel to use ?
Try not to do any grinding because then you have to use various grades of scotchbrite to get that out before the different polishing steps.

Chains usually take a lot of stick some justified like anyone else i guess but i have been very impressed with my local Kwik fit . Ive used them for tyres and oil changes and both have been excellent . In winter and needing a oil change i though i would just let them do it for times sake . I think it was £45 and they have a basic check of other componenets as well while they are at it . It would have cost me £35 plus for oil and filter plus doing it in the wet so a bargain .
Tyre fitting has been pleasant as well as about the keenest prices i could find . I used there mobile fitting service as well and it was spot on . The most important thing is communication . I call for a oil change and they ask me what time i want to drop it off , how long it takes when i can collect it and call or text me to tell me its ready . Same with tyres .
I have to say the thing that means the most and is most likely to infuriate me is communication . If you say your going to do something and you don't then that really boils my @@@@ and makes me never want to use you again , whether its calling me to tell me about a situation or not calling me back when you should or in the case of being mobile not turning up when you say without a call or text.
I often get the feeling in a lot of garages that the service is on its head - your the customer but you end up being treated in such a way that you feel like you should be grateful rather than them trying to make sure you get what you need and are happy with the outcome.

Saw these two together on Arran whilst on holiday. They looked to be touring around and certainly knew how to pick a scenic parking spot. Looks a great spot and nice vans . To be honest i expect someone who wears a rugby shirt and slacks with cuban heels to be exactly the sort of person who would drive a Sherpa !

I recently bought a cheap kit of ebay and gave it a go myself. I didn't find much because we were in a rural location but under a railway bridge . Got some old big chain links , some bits of old wire etc . There were some very heavy items on the bottom that wouldn't come out so i possibly need a grapple as well , but it might be rail offcuts in which case will be to heavy to get out . Got a few more bits to search around some WW2 pillboxes so hopefully will get something good . Also a site where the USAF ww2 guys used to go swimming form there PRU base as well to try . That’s similar to the sorts of places I intend to try next. I’ve already identified a disused barracks that was operational in both wars and had its own wharfage that isn’t too far away. I’ve got a bit of a tick list of things I’d like to find, looks like I’ve already done knives so guns next I guess! I was a bit disappointed I didn’t get a lock key out when fishing the lock. I also have a quite string desire for a cast iron bridge plaque for some reason. So much so I note which Bridges have had them replaced! Same here , i was hoping to pull out a Vickers complete with tripod but alas nothing ! Take care though , i'm sure you have seen the staggering amount of stuff munitions found and you can never be sure what it is . I recently saw some images of someone who found a gas shell and it gave some very nasty burns . Even in a rural area of the Thames near me a grenade was found . I will follow this with interest , best of luck .

For the history I'm going with bought in Belgium by a retiree and taken to Cyprus. And as for the uno turbo engine that's probably a good idea as I see the engines come up on ebay every now and again pretty cheap because theres probably many more engines about than cars to fit them too.
