My other advice would be not to run standard seats with harnesses. With straps either side of the seat rest your prone to them pulling aprt on heavy impact.

Lovely car, brilliant colour and i have always loved the OEM wheels BMW offer I had a track spec one not so long ago and it was fantastic I nearly bought an E46 after but ended up with an E90 instead for practicality

Another later than expected update to our goings on over the past few months. We took our Civic Hire Car out for its first races at Castle Combe back in July. We competed in Castle Combe Hot Hatch series. Below are the race reports The last year I have spent a lot of time checking lap times on TSL to see if realistically it would be worth entering either CCHH or CC saloons at all. Come the first few races this year I figured I wouldn’t have much of a chance in Class C of taking a win unless the lighter French cars ran into French trouble. So I sort of figured if I could match the times I get at trackdays, that would put me somewhere near mid grid when push came to shove. Sure enough in qualifying I upped my pace lap by lap and grabbed 14th with a 1:20.884 on lap 9 of 10. A mix of different class cars surrounded me with 8 cars within 2 seconds of each other in qualifying, EP3 Type R’s, Astra GTE, MG ZR and Mini Cooper S all tight on times. We head out for warm up and straight away one of the EP3’s has fuel issues so I have a free space in front of me, one of my biggest worries was getting in position so this was a concern. My aim was to get off the line with some wheel spin as the cars pretty light and should get accelerate pretty quick which it did. Both Ben and I get great starts but he quickly runs out of tarmac and has to head to the grass as Spiller is forced over. I get a clear line through the kink towards Avon Rise but I simply don’t have the power to match the cars around me. Channing slips between me and Spiller into quarry and it gets busy on the brakes. Everyone gets through the Esses and up to Tower in one piece but then Dorrington loses the back end on the brakes heading across the grass and back on track just before Cooper heads through the apex, this backs everyone up and I gain some time heading into bobbies, no hatches were harmed in this corner. I know both Ben and Chaz have more pace on the straights and short of weaving which would be stupid, I decided to air on the side of caution and let them by, Chaz and I go side by side on the kink and as in qualifying, although he’s on throttle the back end starts to lift towards me. I settle in and try and keep with Chaz but his pace on the straights is too much so I back up a little. Only to find in my mirror starting to close in is a grey and green MGZR of Waterman, followed by another 6 cars! It was that time you wish you had a rear facing camera. I put the pedal down a bit more again and managed to gap the group of cars over a good few laps before I back up again with in mind that my already part warn tyres before the event even started still had to do another 20 minutes in the 2nd race. With one of the Peugeots in class not arriving and the other breaking down at Tower I managed a 2nd in class behind Rob Channing and 11th out of 26 cars. I feel maybe I should have aired on the side of caution for race 2 as well lol. Castle Combe Hot Hatch Big Weekender Race 2 Report So I was quite reserved in race 1 as I figured id like to actually start race 2 and wanted to make sure brakes and tyres would cope. So I went in to race 2 with a mind set that id battle a little harder with some of the lads. Due to my 2nd fastest laptime in qualifying being quite a bit slower than the 1st I started back in 17th for the 2nd race behind some of my rivals. I got another great start, I stayed right but ran out of tarmac and briefly got caught behind Chaz in his EP3 with Waterman to my right. Its another big squeeze into quarry as we all fight for the best position but lack of power hinders me out of the corner again. The two MG’s close in as we head into the chicane making a 4 way fight through the second apex, Chaz looses the back end of his EP3 causing the two MG’s to take avoiding action and collide, I had already seen this potential collision and opted for an alternate line wide, but it wasn’t enough and I take a hug glancing blow from Ray as he takes a hit too. I give the car a wabble up the straight to make sure I'm not going to end up in the next Armco, the alignment is all good but it seems ok to drive so I crack on. For the next few laps i chase down Bracegirdle in his Mini Cooper S, I'm quicker through some of the corners but he has the pace on the straights so I start to figure alternate lines through my faster corners to figure a way past. At this point my GoPro dies but fortunately James Canfer has the rest from his view which you can see here - At 9:16 in this view I finally manage a pass at old paddock which I was pretty proud of, right round the outside after a cut in through the esses. After this I was really on it, cutting apex’ as much as I dare only to cut too much at camp the same lap and kicking the inertia switch on under the dash cutting my fuel ☹. Both Minis go past and I pull over on the lead up to Avon Rise, quick unstrap, reset the button and off we go again but with a chunk of time lost. I get my head down and manage to finish 13th and 2nd in class. The Civic took some major damage from the incident so we are having to source a second car for parts now ready to race again end of August. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a rush like that before. Bring on the last rounds of the season!
