Thanks freshandminty - I must say I was very impressed with your Cube; particularly the air filer shield As sad as it is, I'm really chuffed people had a look round her (and a few taken photos, although that might be due in part to my parking next to Low Standards Austin Standard 8), but it was certainly nice to have the only Midget at the campsite and show (as far as I know?). I really enjoyed every minute of it though; apart from the hangover from hell on Saturday morning mind!).

I just wanted to thank everyone who was involved in making this past weekend as awesome as it was - a frankly brilliant weekend had by myself & Low Standards (plus Tom and Daz, also in attendance). This was my second Gathering; last years was a little sombre for me due to a death in the family and Gimp/Low Standards car not being ready, so after a little persuasion from the Wife to attend, I did so. It was great to get around the campsite talking to people (although my memory for names is abysmal); in particular note the HUUGE white hearse - loved that! Nice to get the chance to have a good look around too (also thanks to the chap parked next to you in the green Vauxhall 2300(L?). Plus it was nice to finaly see that Land Rover in the flesh, and also Dez's awesome creation too. I do follow a lot of the Readers Rides threads and I bow down to your fab skills (note to self - I really must learn to weld now...!). I do agree with some of the sentiments about the Security team, however I personaly didn't get much grief from them; we were asked at curfew time to turn down the music a touch, which we did and they were happy enough (we were about to turn in for bed anyway) and the issue with the parking away from the cars made a little sense, however we decided we weren't likely to shift the cars until Sunday anyway so take a chance - and as it dried up over the weekend it worked out OK. Highlights for me would be KFW doing his sterling best with the Tat auction, (even if i did spend £40 on a cherrybomb i really didn't need; however it will be fitted to the Midget in time for next years Gathering), Gimp donating the Trike (which he spent most of the weekend starting up and playing with despite my hangovers...!) and the fact that Tom donated a plastic boob and managed to raise £15 for charity in doing so. The show day itself was a spectacle, and although i do prefer Prescott for the longer hillclimb (and more photo opportunities) I understand the need to accomodate that many cars - Prescott did struggle somewhat last year, whereas there was plently of room at Shelsley. And to top off a great wekeend, we had a slight detour home - my Sat Nav got us there fine, but i couldn't manage to reverse the 2 hour route down there. So we ended up taking 3 1/2 hours to get back, taking in the City centre of Birmingham. Bad enough in itself in a daily, but when the A38 tunnels are shut you go all through the suburbs of Birmingham, which with two noisy retros, one with a rubber dildo hanging off the windscreen, gets you a lot of strange looks..... Oh and one final thing; for those of you who witnessed the 'prosthetic manhood' attached to Low Standards car - on the Sunday we were having a rest behind the cars on the field, when a young boy (perhaps 5 or 6 years old) asked his Dad - 'What's that for Daddy?', to which his Father hastilly and totally deadpan replied 'It's for Ladies' and moved swiftly on to the next car... I think Mr Low Standards wanted the ground to swallow him up at that point judging by the apology he gave..... So - see you next year!

Just a couple of clips taken with a drone i took with me to this years Gathering.
Sadly I didn't get any of the show field, since my poor repairs to previous damage to the 'copter didn't hold up, so these are all i have.
However, this is what the campsite looked like on Saturday afternoon....
Hopefully next year I'll be a bit more practiced and less hungover so can do a few more of these...

Its happened again, some will remember she didn't make last years gathering as the compressor vanes imploded, well the new turbos just shat a bearing and is now curse word oil into the exhaust... I'm gonna try and make a good one from the two turbos so fingers crossed... Erm, Mr Gimp Low Standards, are you quite sure it was due to the Turbo Vanes that Daisy didn't attend last years Gathering? Or was it due to a simple 'fuelling issue'...?

GPX mivec is the one to go for - 197bhp, tiptronic box. Only had a passenger test drive in one but they are pretty quick (although as suggested not as quick as you might expect; I'd imagine a Civic Type R would have it licked with the same power).
A mate of mine had the 178 bhp GR version; not quite as manic as the GPX, more of a grand tourer.
Oh, and good luck finding a manual one; when he was looking (admittedly a few years back, mind) they commanded a premium over the auto/semi auto's - they're rare in the UK, and as such were going for over a grand more than the standard GPX.
And to be honest i found the Tiptronic to be pretty good on the occasions i got to drive it (not to mention the fact that the auto box was braver to the redline than the owner when pressing on - redline in every gear..!)

1975 MG Midget - 5 years prior to my existence; my Sister was 4 years old, so I doubt i was a consideration at the time.
2001 Ford Focus - Was driving a 1994 Rover 216 Tomcat Coupe at this time; a far better car than the Focus, to be honest. Was stuck with the Ex at the time, probably still enjoying her company at this point. She did however make me get rid of the Tomcat, which in hindsight was the beginning of the end...

Brakes Interior Gauges Wheels Suspension Headlining Rear window tyre scrubbing Rear bulkhead Rub down body and polish Battery Tow eye Insurance Likely things to actually get done: Brakes Some gauges Suspension Battery Insurance Mr Gimp - I think it might be prudent to add the tyre scrub to the list of things to do; otherwise you may not actually get to Shelsley Walsh with the tyre intact.... (Given the smell of tyre rubber after the short run, I think you may be arriving by trailer if you don't ) For me to do? Fit new seatbelts, repaint and rewire the flip front end, work out why the fuel gauge & Rev counter don't now work, and refit the new starter solenoid since we broke the existing one t'other week. Shouldn't take more than, ooh, a weekend at most....

Went to this a couple of years back - good day out, and took hundreds of photos...
I'm heading up on the Saturday; just hope the weather keeps up, since Donington does seem to have is own weather system, unique to the rest of the country...
