As always, i'm pretty impressed by your work! and as always I have questions! When you ground down the welds. Did you restretch any shrinkage from the welding or was is just ground down? David You cant really stretch a mig weld, they are too hard, so its just weld a small bit at a time, to minimise any heat build up and therefore distortion I'll need to work on my patience then your welds turn up very flat! I've been experimenting with copper backing as heat sink but then i have to set my MIG to a much higher amp to get proper penetration. But i guess the copper actually reduces cool-down shrinkage? In any case I've got a way to go untill i can produce welds like yours

The sills should get all the attention at the moment, since they are kind of important to get this heap of rust on the road asap... but i haven't welded in a while so i needed a warm-up. This is the front of the car, off-side corner next to where the grill is supposed to sit. Badly rusted and in dire need of repair. The spare piece didn't have a proper fit so after about 45 mins of fettling and hammering, it fits like a glove I got some copper piping (smashed and/or cut open) to use as a backing for welding (which is for tomorrow) Sorry for the crappy mobile pics... will use a better camera tomorrow (or get better lighting conditions)

thanks C's are lovely indeed! Koen on the forum here (from belgium as well) has a C sedan which is coming together nicely! Car got moved today. The old farm where it stood was sold so it's now in my own garage. Its a bit cramped for space but it relieves me of a 10km drive, so any 30 mins I have to spare can go to this baby! silly pics of the move:

this is a random guess... but I think the clip is a bit bust (the thing the screw goes into) it should look something like this: The difference with yours is obvious: its cracked and distorted

The images went bust (my server's hard disk went bust) but here some fresh ones! The old barn where my car is at, is getting sold so i need to get the kadett back on its feet... which provided a nice mojo boost Working on the front axle parts... lower wishbone and the knuckle that holds them on. And below that, the crossmember that needs a big hole filled. The hole that needs to be filled: One cardboard template: 2 cardboards templates Cut out of 1mm sheet metal: Folding: Fitted: Other side only needed one piece, and didn't turn out as nice as the other side. Metalworking is fun welding isn't my strong side yet though... pictures of pidgeon-poo mixed in with some proper welds will show up here in a few days :-)

My Opel GT is based on the chassis of these as far as I know, Correct. yup, running gear is 90 to 95% the same. which is pretty handy because parts for a GT are sometimes easier to get hold of (and a tad more pricey but its better than not having parts) Do you have a link to the red kadett? i've only seen Ferry's kadett and that one's yellow
