Now that is looking tasty! I reckon that I cannot wait to see the car back! A worthy recommendation for RR indeed . All recommendations gratefully accepted.

Well I'm flattered to see MIB mentioned as a potential nomination for 'Most anticipated build of 2015'. Given the quality and inspiration of so many builds on here, I'm more than a little chuffed that mine was even noticed. retrorides.proboards.com/thread/173330/retro-rides-awards-2014-nominations?page=1&scrollTo=2015349I'm still in 2 minds whether to go with satin gold on the alloys or not? I think it'll give a proper old school look but I guess I could try the wheels as they are first? The Engelmann mirrors are in bits and being prepped for a coat of satin black. I really like these and think they're about the best alternative to the OE items. They're modular too, so can be repaired should the worse happen. Also spent a while looking back over the incarnations of MIB. Honestly, I can't wait to get the e21 back.

I think we gave the colour away about a year ago. Hopefully next week will see the E21 get its final paint. Obviously the whole car painting process is a bit of a dark art, which people like Mick @ Pristine Bodyworks make look oh so easy. I have every confidence in his work though and am sure it will have a superb finish. Fortunately all the chrome and stainless trim from my car is nigh on perfect. I have also tried to buy new or 'new old stock' wherever possible. Both front and rear light clusters were NOS and even the headlight buckets appear as they did, when it first rolled off the production line, back in March 1982. I sometimes forget this car is nearly 33 years old! It may be that the trimmer does the new carpets, which will also cover the rear firewall and where the original seat base would have gone. The rear cage is a good, tight fit and made it impossible to retain the OE inertia seat belts. As a result I got a pair of new Safety Devices harnesses and installing them properly means the rear seat had to go. I don't really do passengers anyway and there's another Recaro, for SWMBO. There is also a nice Prototipo steering wheel. One of the nice things recently, has been rediscovering all the nice parts I bought a couple of years ago now. I'd almost forgotten I had them! I believe these seats started life in an Audi of some type? I spotted them on eBay and snagged them with a cheeky offer of £200. They're lovely seats and in remarkable condition. The OE seat mounts will be removed from the car and the seats mounted directly to the floor. Otherwise non standard seats have a habit of sitting extremely high and compromising the driving position. I think we are finally at the point of installing the Nakamichi CD player and amplifiers too?

Yeah, now it's finally getting to a point where it's a running, driving and now painted car again, I'm pretty excited at the prospect of it being finished. Right now though, I just want to see how it looks when it's finally painted.

Spoke to owner and she realised the MOT has just expired. As a result the first £875 cash buys it.

Yeah, it'll be great to see it in colour. I've not seen another e21 done in Laguna Seca blue.

Cheers guys.
I'd like to think it won't be too much longer, but the truth is I simply don't know. I know it's being done between other jobs, but they're having some staffing problems, so I'm going to have to be patient a little longer. I do know Mick is keen to get it finished though and he's promised to fire across some photos, once the paint is done.

Went to see MIB briefly yesterday and we are getting close to final paint and refit now. It's actually a running, driving car and starts on the key without issue. The brakes will be complete, as soon as the custom resevoir arrives. I'll be putting a few miles on the cams prior to the Jenvey ITB's going on, along with the DTA management. The gauges are all in, with just the oil pressure sender to be fitted. The rad has been modified slightly and the senders fitted. It also runs Evans waterless coolant. Sadly you can't really see from the photos, but the stance is absolutely spot on. A bit of rake and the staggered alloys, have given it a really aggressive look and it has real presence when sat. I'm really chuffed with the overall look of it. Flipping the headlight lenses has sorted these, although I still have a pair of clears, should I ever want to revert. I'm probably going to go with the American spec 320is front spoiler and not fit a rear for now. I'll play with the aesthetic details once the bumpers and stainless trim goes on. It's been a long time coming but we are really getting close now. It'll be great to get it in a few shows next year, but I'm really looking forward to having an E21 daily driver again.
