Will check all of that, cheers. Don't get me wrong, there isn't a lot of lateral movement, it's just very tight because there's an extra three inches on the track now!
I will see about having someone make me up a panhard rod.

So to add to a car with nothing, and presumably no aftermarket stuff just... available, is a panhard rod my best bet do you think? They're the simplest, right?
I reckon if the axle was properly centered, I'd have about 10mm either side.

The arches come right down over the tops of the wheels, so I think getting the filler rubbed down as much as I can (or yes replaced with steel) is my best bet on that front.
The lateral movement, if I can stop it, will sort it I guess.
Aren't anti-tramp bars more of a forwards/backwards thing?

Hello, Sooo.... my rear wheels were looking a bit lost, so I had them banded 1.5" each side, but in retrospect it's possible this was a bit bold. It's toight! Like a toiger. My arches have rather a lot of filler in them, both sides, and the left rear wheel is just so close to it, I can't get my fingers between the arch and the wheel all the way around and it scrubs quite badly on left turns. Now because it's only filler that's rubbing, I don't think there's any huge danger, nothing that I can't keep an eye on anyway, but it's not taken the letters off my tyre or anything! Now... there are things I'm going to do straight away - sand down the filler because it's pretty lumpy and I reckon I can lose quite a lot of it (although the car is currently making a pretty good start on this!) and I'm also going to replace the centring pins on my leaf packs as they are both snapped. However... I'm not sure this is going to be enough. Is a panhard rod the answer to this? If not, what is? Cheers

Moon steering wheel, and Lucas style mirrors to replace the others. The others were pretty useless and I didn't like the look of them either. Took off the aerial and blanked the hole too.

Found a place down the road from work that have the scanner thing and reckon they can scan the paint and mix me up a touch up pot.
Cheers all, gonna give them a try.

If I keep the car long enough 'proper' paintwork will be on the cards, but for now I'd really like to get hold of a pot just to touch in a few bits. I'll see what the local guys can come up with definitely.
Cheers guys

Good shout, I can't think of anything that'll bolt off easily, but I guess I may be able to actually drive it to somewhere and have them do it possibly. Will see if I can call a couple of local places.
In the meantime if anyone does know a supplier that knows the mixes for rootes colours I'm definitely interested!
Cheers.

Hello,
Anyone know of a supplier of touch up paints that can do Rootes group colours?
After Tartan Red 085 but no luck finding any.
Any help appreciated! Cheers

Hello, Picked this up in April as I was missing my old P6, even though it was a rotten heap and a money pit. It's a 1964 Super Minx, 1600, with a column shift auto. 53k on the clock, no idea if it's genuine, but it's pretty tidy and no real disaster issues have cropped up yet! This is a bit of a catch up, I've been taking pictures as I go and putting a few bits on another forum I use but for some reason didn't get round to putting it on here so here it is! So I drove it back from Dereham in Norfolk to my parents' place in Thetford, and everything was cool, so I took it back to Essex and everything was still cool... so that was a start! Gave her a wash, polish, wax etc, and she comes up pretty well - she's had a lot of paint I think, and there's quite a lot of overspray which I'll have to do something about, but visually quite good: Changed the oil, front pads changed, couple of other bits. Took the spot lamps and front badge off: Took the wood dash off because it was cracked and I don't really like it anyway - I was going to have it remade in black acrylic or something, but I actually like it off: Note manky carpet. Then started collecting some bits for it. Had some -2" springs made for the front and got some lowering blocks for a mk1 Escort for the back. Took hubcaps off, hate them and they kept flying off: Much prefer it with plain/white wheels but the rears really didnt fill the arches at all to the point where they looked a bit lost, so I sent them off to Banded Wheels Essex to have the rears banded 1.5" and all four powdercoated. I'd also ordered a new carpet and started pulling out the old stuff and put some deadening down: I cleaned up and painted the floor as well, and filled a couple of small holes with metal filler as they were away from the chassis rails but I'm keeping a real close eye on them and I think they will want welding over winter. While the wheels were away and it was on stands on my sisters drive, I fitted the new carpet: Put the speakers in "properly" by mounting them to bits of MDF under the carpet under the front seats as I didn't want to molest the doors too much and no room in kick panels. Relocated stereo from glovebox to under dash... not sure on this looks wise but so much easier and cleaner than how it was in the dash. New plates went on, also fitted stupid gear knob which I unashamedly love: And the wheels came back! Fronts, powdercoated: Rears, banded 1.5" and powdercoated: Fitted up with some push-through centre caps and shiny nuts: Fill the arches? ****ing hell, do they... they were rubbing at first but the arches have a lot of filler in them (all four) and it's kind of solved itself.... Cleaned up for the Maldon show: She wants to be a bit lower at the front - in the first pic with the wheels fitted, it's a lucky angle and it's more level than that, but that's my aim. I think the plan is to replace the spring cushions up front with items off a Mustang II as they apparently result in about another inch drop. Plans at the moment.... get another inch off the front, have a proper go at the underside and clean it up, deal with any nasties I find (looks pretty fair I think but who knows) and then waxoyl it. Sort out the rear leaf spring packs, maybe take them off and clean them up but definitely fit a new centering pin as one has snapped, it's still in there but needs replaced. Got a red moon metaflake steering wheel on the way as well and want to sort out rear speaker situation. Need some touch up paint as well. Some bushes want replacing. Well to be fair they probably all want replacing! Thinking about having the exhaust replaced from manifold back with a cherry bomb and a nice outward rolled tip. Also got some tidying up to do inside, new furflex for the doors possibly, and some of the vinyl's pretty tatty so I'll aim to replace it all. Longer term.. I want to metalflake the roof, change from a dynamo to an alternator, fit a brake servo. Maybe a spot of pinstriping. Longer longer term... tidy up the paint, possibly remove some chrome (hillman lettering primarily), I'd like to lose the wing mirrors in favour of door mirrors or peep mirrors. Maybe an engine change at some point in the far future if I keep it that long. Looking at the MX5 swap done to the Avenger on here gets you thinking, but it would need a fair bit doing before that point. Cheers for looking, will update as I go

Good rule of thumb, cheers. On second look I don't think it really needs the spacers. I've had the rears banded to fill the arches and thought the fronts might need a little nudge out but I think it's alright.
All good to know though!

There may be 10mm, would have to measure, but I think it's shy of that. About centering - with lug centric wheels will it not present a problem on that front? Cheers

Hi, These may well be really stupid questions so forgive me but I'd rather err on the side of safety. The wheels on my superminx aren't hubcentric but lug centric, so the wheels are centred by the wheel studs and nuts. What's the deal with these if I want to space them out, by say 10mm? Will the wheels centre properly with spacers in the equation or will it cause me issues? Can I just get a set of 10mm, 4x108mm spacers and crack on, using the original studs, or should I be looking at fitting longer studs? The standard wheels and nuts leave about probably 5-6mm of exposed thread. Again, it's probably a stupid question, but to be honest I don't know the answer and don't want to do anything stupid so a bit of knowledge would really not go amiss. Cheers

Here she is: Haven't started a build thread yet, I may do though when I get started. It's on my sister's drive at the moment, and I don't want to be working on it there and making a mess. I'm on the look out for a lockup and as soon as I can lay hands on one I'll start doing a few bits. First plans really are to change the fluids, have the wheels off and take a look at the discs and pads and probably replace them, as it's got a bit of a judder when braking. There's new shoes in the boot so I'll take a look at them as well and see if they want doing. I'll see how the brakes are after that and might get a servo fitted as I don't believe it has one (and if it does, it's not working! The brakes are pretty dire but they do stop the car, you just have to really lean on it which I guess is normal but I'd prefer it to be better.) The other day it was smoking just slightly when I came to a stop, about half the time, and just for a couple of seconds. I'm wondering if maybe a breather or a leak is just spilling a little bit of coolant or oil on to something hot when I pull up? When I pop the bonnet there's nothing, it doesn't keep doing it - just a couple of seconds every now and then, so I'll have to investigate that. I'll clean the oil off the block and see if it reappears. It's already negative earth so I'm going to put a head unit in, it's had one and speakers on the parcel shelf previously so that shouldn't be too much work, hopefully all the wiring's there anyway. I'd like speakers up front and will see about where I can put them. Don't really want to do it in the door cards if I can help it, although I guess if I do a nice job there's no harm in it. I reckon I will probably get it converted to an alternator as it's on a dynamo at the moment and some better headlights would be nice, plus I wonder if it'll struggle with the stereo in it. There's also obviously the lowering, I've got some springs on order now and the blocks have arrived already, and I've got some Rostyles I got off eBay for £40 that look like they'll clean up ok, one is a bit dinged up around the rim but I think I can probably deal with that with a mallet. She really wants new carpets too. I'm also planning on wrapping the lower half of the dash in gloss red as I'm not a big fan of the wood, and hopefully gonna get a metalflake moon steering wheel from my other half for my birthday That's the plan really, just intending to keep it for sunny days, shows and club runs etc. Like I said, I'll put a thread in Reader's Rides soon, but I won't have any progress to report just yet so I'll probably leave it til I get going!

Hi, I've just got a '64 Super Minx and I want to drop it a couple of inches. I've got some suitable blocks for the rear, and before I try and get some custom springs for the front made up, couple of questions: Who's good for having custom springs made up? Are there any suitable donor springs that people use for these that give a couple of inches drop? I see in another thread ention of Capri or Escort springs in a Hunter, is there any similar solution for the Super Minx? Any help appreciated. Cheers
