I bought this back in January as my daily after really enjoying driving the Area 52 'Back to 96' Punto for a while. The idea was to use this as an economical, fun and reasonably practical car to save me using the rather thirsty Delica all the time.
It fitted the bill perfectly, doing really good MPG whilst also being a LOT of fun to drive. I can see why these were so popular - although it's only a 1.2, it really does go well. And handles well.
...and it falls into the cheaper tax bracket which makes it even better on the pocket. Most hot (or mildly warm) hatches tend to be in the 1.6 and over category which immediately puts them into the higher road tax band. Not so with the Sporting ;D
So, if I bought it as a daily and love it so much....why am I selling it?
Only because since buying it, things have changed a bit and I am doing a lot more mileage now. Like quadruple what I was doing when I bought the Punto. While the Punto is economical and a lot of fun, I now needed a car that was a great mile muncher. I could happily do most of this in the Punto, but I decided to go for a Cavalier TD which would do even better MPG and also was designed to sit on a motorway all day, every day. I lose all the fun of the pocket rocket Sporting, but gain a bigger boot and 50+ MPG. Bland & boring compared to the Sporting...this is a very regretful sale! (hence why it's taken me a month to get around to selling it)
As you can see it's bright yellow. It's got all the standard Sporting features like central locking, electric windows, electric slide & tilt sunroof, alloys, front foglights, twin beam headlamps, clear indicators, colour coded bumpers, height adjustable seat etc...
It also has some KYB lowering springs fitted which really do make this car handle very, very well. I'm not sure if the sideskirts are OEM optional ones, aftermarket ones or maybe standard ones sprayed yellow, but whichever...they do make the car look really good.
The car is currently SORN (thanks to this new rule where any car not insured can't be taxed!) but I have reflected that in the asking price. It's MOT'd until the 26th September but I am so confident in the car that I am willing to put another 12 months MOT on it for peace of mind of anyone who is thinking of buying it (buyer pays the MOT, I pay for any work IF it needs it )
Mechanically, the car is superb. There was a bit of an occasional misfire when I got it, but after changing the HT leads it was cured. I also changed the plugs and the Lambda sensor as well as the coil packs. The coil packs were fine and the car comes with the original working ones as spares.
I also refitted the exhaust because it knocked every now & then on hard right hand bends. I just bought all new rubbers and everything is good.
Every now & then there is a very slight hesitation when pulling away, but I haven't looked any further into this because it isn't that bad and I didn't have time to find out why. I just thought it best to mention it. It's one of those things I was happy to live with, with the idea of sorting it 'one day' due it not being bad. Come and test drive it and you'll see what I mean.
The interior is in excellent condition. No wear, no holes, no burns, no nasty stains....just a very nice, neat & clean interior. There is a JVC CD/MP3/USB head unit but the facia surround is missing. I will try and get a replacement for this before selling the car. Everything works as it should, all electrics are fine and there isn't really much else to say about the interior because I can't think of any faults
There are some marks and battle scars on the exterior, but this is a 12yr old car, so it is to be expected! I'll try and show the defects as best I can, but the best way is to come and see the car for yourself. It does present itself very well overall, but there are some bits that become more apparent up close.
It's had some paint at some point and if you look closely you can see a slight colour difference on the rear of the door/bottom of the B pillar
Probably the worst bit is where a previous owner has hit the front bumper which has caused the paint to crack. The bumper itself is fine, it's just the paint...so could be rectified without too much bother (I was going to leave it like this, just because as a daily I didn't want to start spending money on minor cosmetics)
There is a dent with some cracked paint on the bonnet....obviously where someone shut the bonnet onto a spanner or something. No rust, it has been like this since I got the car and no sign of any rust appearing.
Maybe caused at the same time as the front bumper? The centre of the bonnet around the badge has been pushed in a bit. Its more obvious from certain angles, not at all obvious from others. THis is the kind of dent that a 'smart repair' company would be able to fix very quickly, easily and cheaply.
There are some further scratches and a few tiny car park 'dings' that all cars seem to get....but I have shown the most significant areas just to be as open as possible. I am probably making this car look worse than it is....it really is a nice looking car overall.
Please do come and have a look at it, please take it for a spin (I can borrow some trade plates if given enough warning) and I think you'll see that this is a cracking example of a really fun little car.
Any questions, please do ask.
Many thanks,
Bruce.
P.S. I also have two other sets of wheels that I can sell with the car. First is a set of really cool Alfa 15" wheels that I bought to put on it (seeing as I was intending to keep the car) - I don't have any pics, but they are the same as these, in good condition and with good tyres too....if I get chance, I'll try and get some photos of them on the Sporting, they'll look awesome!
£50 for the set if sold with the car
I also have the 'Back to 96' TSW three spokes. Much hated, much laughed at, everyone thought I was mad when I bought them for the Area 52 Punto, but all comments were retracted when they were fitted. They look immense on a Punto....they really do work in 90's style! Again, I'll try and get some shots of them on the yellow one very soon.
£90 for the set if sold with the car
