I won't be there when you cross the road, so always use the Green Cross Code.

Never mind. I saw a similar event a while back while surfing for something completely different (...No!!, not that!)...can't find it again but it was Paris/Dakar in a curse word car, or something similar. Cars were restricted to under 1 litre or so and over 15 years old. They had a list of all eligable cars, small fiats, minis, renaults, peugeots etc. Seemed mad.

and you're two of them Beginning of each year finds me glued to the monitor, constantly refreshing the page, trying to get the latest news when the "event" runs. Even tempted to have the updates go to my phone! But I'm not fixated, honest! The organizer is a regular on one of the other lists I subscribe to.

The son of the owner of the motorbike garage a few doors down from us (Hammond Motors) does it (on a bike-mad). He was doing well last time until he crashed. He was interviewed by Michael Palin in his programme Sahara too!
I'm sure the BBC will cover it all just as extensively as they do LeMans every year.

bunch of guys from the Saab newsgroup entered in a donated 900 injection 8v.
The car was Sven, and they were the desert viking.
Becuase the car was a donation, they had a whole £100 to spend on preperations.

Some year I'm going to do it, just as soon as I can get the ol' man to give me one of his Volvos for under £100. A 740 would make it to Dakar no problem, unmodified almost. I'd spend the rest of the cash on making sure the engine breathed clean air free from sand and dust. Maybe a snorkel arrangement like a military Land Rover. Oh, and a couple of tins of paint to make it look like a rally car.

Yeah! Me and my brother haven't set any date as such - it needs so much planning as you're pretty much on your own if anything goes belly up out there! We've promised ourselves that we will enter one year soon. Then probably get hold of another banger to drive back to the UK in!

Damn! I've just read it and they can only accept left hand drives this year! Oh, well, maybe I should just drive to Moscow on holiday one year, and come home with a cheap, interesting banger. (Do you think an Imp could tow a Moskvitch home? ;D)

Oh yeah I forgot about the left-hooker rule. I guess if they can't use RHD motors over there it's kinda reasonable (Why don't they drive on the proper side of the road eh?!). The Moskvitch looks a heavy curse word to me! You could get hold of a UAZ (or whatever it's called) 4x4 and tow the Imp home! . Or go to Croatia and get a Renault 4 and have a great holiday at the same time - beautiful scenery and the girls are supposed to be some of Europes finest!

A Uaz sounds like a good idea. I'd get the proper name for the classic ones off of www.autosoviet.altervista.org but it's going mental and not working just now, maybe the site's being updated for the first time since the end of the Cold War! ;D ;D ;D I know the newer UAZ models (yes they still make them!) are called Hunters. But I still think it'd be cooler to tow a UAZ home behind the Imp, think of the funny looks!

A UAZ 469, that's it! For those of you not insane enough to like Soviet cars this is a UAZ 469, it was the official 4x4 of the Red Army. Kind of like the Land Rover is in Britain or the Willys Jeep was in the USA (although those bloody Hummers they're using now are just an excessive, lard-arsed joke, a Defender or UAZ makes a better off roader any day!) Although this one seems a little overloaded to me, but think of all the supplies for the Dakar you could load into one! ;D
