Just thought I'd sign up and say hello ;D No idea why it's taken me so long to find this forum! Anyways, as you might guess I'm a bit keen on the old Datsuns so I'm glad to see they do get the odd mention on here now and then. I'm pretty keen on all old Japanese cars and by old, I also include 80's ones. I have a passion for old cars in general and have had all sorts of other old British cars in the past. I currenty have an assortment of Datsuns and Nissans ranging from a 1962 Bluebird Estate to a 1990 Sunny ZX twin cam. I also have a '69 AMC Javelin which never works. My baby is my '71 Datsun 510 (pic in my siggy) and I'm also slowly fixing up a '76 Datsun 1200 pickup which will have a CA18DET (S13 200SX engine) in it when it's done. The only other Datsun I have which will get modified is my beloved '76 Datsun 160J SSS hardtop (710) which will have an SR20 or possible the KA24DE from my 510 in it eventually. .. My 510 is going over to SR20DE power at the end of the year and getting proper stripped out to shed some pounds. I mainly use the 510 for trackdays although it is usually moted and taxed for road use. I have a few 80's Nissans too. My daily driver is an '88 Bluebird Turbo which is curently a bit poorly (80 miles to a gallon of oil )... I'm putting together an '89 Nissan Sunny ZX coupe with a modified CA18DET in it. I'm looking to get about 250hp in this so it should be good fun. Designed entirely with a ruler... I also have an estate version of this Sunny and a Sunny ZX hatchback which my girlfriend drives. I have a liking of the Sunny ZX's as you might guess. They are bit of a forgotton hot hatch and have a pretty credible spec and performance. The engines are a delight (although not so delightfull to work on!) Standard they come with 129bhp, discs all round, a close ratio 'box with an LSD, PAS, EW, CL..the list goes on. Best of all you can buy them for peanuts. Last but not least, my Javelin. Agricultural, unreliable and most unpleasant to drive ..and current;y broken as usual. Detonated and destroyed a piston because like a muppet I forgot to put the octane booster in:'(. But I forgive it all because it's so damned fast ;D When it works. Cheers, -Eddie

Yup, one of those but a two door coupe. It need the rear arches doing but the rear is good. It's not for certain yet but I reckon he will be selling it soon. When he does I'll post it here. It's bright lemon yellow and best of all, tax exempt ;D
The reason he's likely to sell is that he has another coupe, a 4 door, a wagon, a Laurel, a 1200 and a 710 coupe as well. Can't do them all!

Hi Ratdat. Great collection of cars you have there, your 510 is a favoruite of mine Retro rice is sooo cool, so much better than the faceless Evos/Imprezas that are all the rage nowadays. I love German cars but cannot deny the pull of a modified J-car.

It's always suprised me that people have never taken much notice of older J cars. They have all the right ingredients for modifying. Most are RWD and have very conventional layouts meaning there's loads of interchangeable parts. And they are generally light too. Something like a Datsun 1200 coupe only weighs around 725kg. A Datsun 1000 is only 660kg! Then there's all the cool 70's coupes. Shame it's taken so long for them to gain any kind of popularity as now most are gone. The irony is that I think many were put off owning a Datsun because it might be hard to find parts for. You can probably get more new old stock parts for Datsuns than just about any other make of car! In fact it's easier to get new parts than it is to get used ones

Is the yellow coupe in the backround of this shot a 180B? Yes, that's one. They are known in Europe and Australia as a 180B but they are a Bluebird in Japan. They are just called 610 in the States.

Thought I'd post up the pics I took of your 510 at the RC show! Great pics! RCS was an excellent event although i didn't actually see all of the show as I was on the strip most of the day. Didn't get very good results either Best I managed all day was a 14.85 which is over two tenths slower than my previous best. I really need to shed some wieght off the car and sort out the rear camber/toe out problems. The rolling resistance is huge on it as I found out from pushing it up the fire-up lane!

I thought I'd post some pics of my other cars ;D First off..some Bluebirds. This is the oldest one I have and certainly the only one in the UK I'd think. This is a 1962 Datsun Bluebird wagon (model WP312). .. This is also probably unique in the UK..my 1966 Bluebird... Then there's the next model on..my '71 Bluebird or 510 as it's more commonly known. This pic is from Cadwell Park back in May. Had lots of fun that day ..the guys with the Lotus Elises got a suprise ;D I have had the next two generations of Bluebird too but currently don't have either ...thos generations being 610 and 810 models. I do still have a 910 though although it out on a kind of long term loan untill 2007 (long story). It is a very nice one though. This is the last Bluebird to have RWD... Never had the first gen FWD Bluey which is a U11 but I have got a T72 which was the one after. That's the turbo pictured in my first post. Not bad going I thought...of the entire lineup of Bluebirds since they were launched in '59 uo until the late 80's, there's only three models I have not owned and two of those were only pre facelift versions ;D
