Just a quick heads-up for the titled event!
Its on Friday the 16th of Septmber at Santa Pod.
Details are here...: www.ppcmag.co.uk/999-challenge.html
and lots of jibbering on the forum, here....: www.ppcmag.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=41
Most of you know the format. Buy and/or buld a car for under £1k and go as fast as you can. The car should have a current MOT on 16th of September (although this has never been checked!) and you must be able to proove it stands you at less than £1k (which has also never been checked!).
It's a very laid back challenge as you can imagine and the last event at Santa Pod ended up with everyone having as many runs up the drag strip as they wanted. As my car popped within the first 20 minutes, I got to drive everyone elses cars instead! Once everyone tired of driving fast in a straight line, they set up the handling course. This was a bundle of cones and suprisingly, you had as many goes as you wanted. The fastest times of the drag and handling course were added together to give the winners.
So that's the general idea. However.......
Many of the guys who have turned-up at these £999s have gone out a couple of days before the event and bought whatever they could with whatever they had in their pockets. These guys had just as much fun as the 'magic calculator guys' who were there to win. And you could share a ride to share costs. You'll still have to pay £50 each driver but the car can be used, abused and resold if it survives. And £50 for the amount of drag miles you get is pretty good value, if drag strips are your thing.
You'll need to be entering pretty soon and if enough folks mention my name when enquiring, I may get to play without having to pay!!
And don't forget, you can't come last no matter how curse word you are because I'll be there too.
Cheers, Owelly.
