I know this has most likely been covered here before, but i cant get the hang of the search tool on here  basically i want to know how to fit and connect up an electric fan to help aid cooling in my 1500 pre xflow ford corsair. i will probably use a new ford fan or vauxhall one from the local scrappys, but i want to know how i connect it up where to connect it (i know the radiator lol, but the electric curse word),and all of the other info i need to know start to finish as i know nowt about this (more bodywork and paint based guy) hope someone can help me through with this, and in doing so maybe helping others thinking the same too? you need to use a thermostat(fixed or adjsutable), and a relay to switch it- a lot of OE fans now have at least the relay attached to them. a good earth and a direct battery live feed through the relay, switched by a fusebox fed live. i usually wire it to a permanent feed so it stays on after the ign. is turned off. once the thermostat drops below the set temp it then switches off irrespective of if the car is running or not.

Hi take a look on ebay there are kits to fit a fan not cheap but if you can get fan from the scrappy that will save you money, probably easiet is kenlow where you put the sensor under the top hose then conect up to fan and adjust the temp you want the fan to come on. You will have to check whether the fan you get is push or pull.

erm, fan from scrapyard, ignition live, with added cut off switch. You'll know if something's gone wrong, because you won't be able to hear the fan  The cut off switch is there for when you need to do work on the engine/etc |

For a kent find a fiesta or Mk3/4 escort valencia engined car, grab the stat housing, fan switch (in the stat housing) and wiring, you'll need to sort a top hose out cos the fiesta top hose is a smaller diametre to the corsair (i usually cut the end off the smaller hose leave it on the stat then fit the larger hose over that and clamp the 2 togetether), no relay cos they use a H/D switch just a live feed and earth, I usually use a Mk2 granada A/C fan (same as Rs turbo cooling fan), that way it all looks factory and all the parts have ford on them  Make sure you use a push fan to push and a puller to pull they work better the right way round as stated above. failing that any fan with a pacet top hose adapter and a relay from a breakers yard, wiring below   not my diamgrams stolen off the web possably from here a few years ago ? |

First pic there is more how I'd do it as I personally wouldn't want the fan running on after I've got out the car. If the thermostat is in a hose or the rad then it shouldn't run on for long though.
I'd also be tempted to fit a bypass switch in so that you can manually turn on the fan ahead of the thermostat.
