wow That's CLEAN! You guys LOVE your Pinto engines, dontcha? I'm all about the Cossie YB engine in any 4cylinder Ford Well to be fair, those pic's were taken September time last year, and the winter's not been to kind to her so far..... As for the engine, I was gonna tune the 1600 crossflow thats already in her, but to get more than 100bhp from it was a damn site more expensive than going down the 100bhp+ standard Pinto route. OK, it's a bit heavier, but it's got so much more affordable tuning potential, and the low milage crossflow can go back in should I decide to sell her. I did really want to go essex V6, but finding a decent one for reasonable cash was near on impossible. Oh, that and the miserly extra 40quid the pinto's gonna make to my insurance premium, I can't complain really!

I've always been a Carb's kinda guy really, so zetec's and injected stuff arn't really my cup of tea. Besides, I'm just waiting delivery of a nice low milage 2.0L Pinto as we speak.... along with a few other goodies to go with it. My plans for her really are choice 70's mods. 4 branch manifold, bit of a cam, currently negotiating on a set of twin 45 webbers, you know the kind of thing. Don't really want to go overboard with the mod's, just enough to irritate a few Nova/Corsa boys!

Yeah, I love carburetters... but I'd kill for some throttle bodies. Due to the drastic changes in altitude out here, keeping a carburetted car running straight and keeping them synched isn't easy. I bought a set of DellOrto DHLA40s for my Mk1 GTi 1800 but never got them installed What about some boost? Over here we had a 2.3L Pinto Turbo engine (available in the Ford Mustang SVO and Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. It's a bored out Turbo Pinto and makes gobs of power. Pretty cheap too.

I am liking this... Allways prefered them in order of marque from 1 to 5 but that Mk3's sweet Something I really like with not only the older Fords but a lot of the retro stuff is you don't have to really modify the body for them to look nice. I'd have it a bit lower though ;D

Damn.... I didn't think it'd get this much attention! Thanks for the compliments guys, much apreciated! As for having it lower, it's currently a good 3inches lower than standard! The suspension arms sit about an inch off the bump stops, so I can't really go any lower without major mods.....and ive already fitted shortened dampers! I think it's probably the angle the photo's taken from, and the fact it's a big car with 13" wheels on that make it look a bit higher. But beleive me, if I could go lower, I would! I have this strange addiction with lowering cars to silly levels.... ;D

Think I'm used to mine with tyres up in the arches & I've got a much lower profile tyres than you also. How about aftemarket alloys?? I even think you can get away with [dare I say it on here ;D] more ''modern'' style alloys on the Mk3. Got a picture here with a dark Mk3 on the 16"/17" [?] RS Mondeo 7 spokes

GJM :- If it's cortina related advice etc your after, try this place www.buysellcortina.co.uk, they're a real friendly bunch full of useful advice and a valuable resource for spare parts. And the forums are pretty usefull too. The ex-Capri laser/RS wheels are on there cause they cost 50notes for 5 of them with tyres, but I aint sure which way to go yet with the styling. I kinda like the sleeper look of a few choice 'period' mods to suprise the local boyracers. Well, when the engines fitted that is! I bought her to run as she is through the winter and as the weather gets better, start modding her up. So roll on the spring!

don't klnow what I'm goign to get yet, either an Imp/Stiletto/mk1Escy or a Cortina. Not sure what mk it would be, not a mk1 don't like the styling on them as much as the mk3 and 4, the mk5s can look really really sweet with alloys, lowered and a good ol' but of polish ;D Plus with a Ghia you get all the mod cons aswel. Their also pretty cheap! Who knows what I'll get What will insurance be like for a 17 yr old in a 1.3/1.6 mk5 (I take it the mks below the 5 will have slightly cheaper insurance since their slightly older)

In my opinion, the cortina's definatley the cheapest option as far as initial purchase price. If it's a MK5 your after as a first car, try and find a two door coupe. Theres a few about still, and most of them left the factory with a 1300 engine, so are the cheapest to insure, and by far the coolest looking MK5. Unfortunatly, they're also the slowest. BUT, when youv'e got some no-claims etc, then it's real easy to beef up the power stakes, as a 1600 crossflow or pinto engine will drop in with very little hassle, and when youre bored of that, 2.0L pinto, then onto the V6 department if you like! Very easy to upgrade. With Classics, the insurance value usually depends on how common the car is, and how much they're worth. Older isn't always cheaper to insure. At 17, you'll find most insurance companies won't give you a classic policy, so it's best to keep the engine size as low as possible til you can afford. So from that point of view, an Imp is probably a safer bet for you. But hey, it's personal taste and what you can afford at the end of the day dude.

would you say that the mk3 was reasonably easy to work on? Anything mechanical is an absolute doddle dude. As with any car tho, bodywork is more of an artform. Workshop manuals pop up for Cortinas on ebay all the time, but most jobs are pretty straightforward if your mechanicaly minded. Not a nasty car to cut you teeth on as a beginer really, you could do a lot worse! Oh, and that Scirrocco is a proper bargain matey! Well worth the wedge! The only downside to them is the high insurance bracket they're in...... Nice and tidy tho dude! ;D
