Make: Mazda
Model: MX5
Milage: 128000
MOT: July 2012
Tax: Aug 2011
Location: Sandhurst, Berkshire, GU47 0UD
Price: £850
Up for sale is my 1997 Mazda MX5, 1.8 litre model. It is NOT an Import, making insurance significantly cheaper!
Its price for a pretty quick sale, its had the welding done, its water-tight, doesnt leak, no split window, hasnt been crashed, or written off.
If you've got a machine polisher and a big bottle of Tcut, and wanted to do a few bits to make it stunning, you could see a good £1200 for this I reckon.
Important bits:
1.8 litre engine.
MOT until late July 2012
Tax until end of August 2011
Several old MOTs
Loads of service history.
Hood and rear screen in perfect condition - no rips or tears.
Over £1500 in service reciepts - exhaust and brakes all replaced not that long ago!
Paint isnt completely faded!
Alloys with good branded tyres, all with legal tread..
This car will probably look quite tidy in the pictures below - there are several small little dents or paint chips or similar on the car, but at a decent distance (as the pictures will confirm) it looks quite presentable.
The car has covered 128,000 miles, which is pretty common for these (my previous one had done even more and was newer!).
It could do with a good Tcut and polish to bring the paint up to a shinier finish, but I'll let the new owner decide what they want to do there.
Exterior:
Rear - all very tidy, the rear bumper has a slight matt finish, it may polish up to match the rest of the car - barely noticable really.
Drivers side - a few small marks, chips, etc - as to be expected on a car of this age. Has had the rear sill welded recently, and is MOT-happy.
Front - numberplate holder is a bit cracked, but not very noticable. Some stone chips on the bonnet. The nose-cone has peeled most of the lacquer off - either remove the rest or have it given a quick coat of lacquer. Small bubbled patch on a front wing, barely a couple of inches long. Not broken the paintwork, barely noticable.
Passenger side - similar to drivers side, a couple of small marks, but has slightly faded in comparison with the rest of the car - a machine polish would probably bring it up a dream. Could do with the rear sill given a patch in a year or 2. Not rotten, far from it.
Roof - perfect. No splits, cracks, scuffs, tears, anything. Perfect.
Wheels - all a bit scuffed, but with legal tyres, all branded like Pirelli.
Interior:
Seats - overall quite presentable - some wear on the drivers side bolster, I've included pictures below - not worn through, and not very noticable.
CD player - Sony, and it works.
Dash - presentable - could do with a wipe over with some dash wipes, but there is no noticable damage, everything functions as it could.
Rear strut brace - I think that what it is - just behind the seats, by the parcel-shelf area.
Carpets - not holed, clean and presentable - I've included some mats to tidy the car up a bit - from another car but they don't look too bad.
Steering wheel - is a bit 'squishy' from wear - can easily be replaced, but is perfectly functional.
Gear knob - little wear, but goes in and out of gear perfectly, no crunches etc.
Mechanically:
Engine - purrs. Sounds lovely. Makes a ticking noise for a few seconds on start-up, this is apparently perfectly normal and everything is fine.
Oil - no mayo under the filler cap, car has been reguarly serviced.
Clutch - no slipping, or squeaking.
Brakes - all seem to work nicely, handbrake holds well.
Coolant - all good - could do with a radiator top hose replacing at some point in the future as there is a split, but it doesnt appear to do more than very slightly weep. Had a heater matrix hose replaced recently.
Lights pop up and down perfectly, and quickly.
Steering is un-assisted, so pretty heavy - takes a bit of effort to manouvre at low speeds, but less to go wrong.
Other stuff:
Lots of MOTs included in the folder that comes with the car.
Panel gaps are all spot on.
2 keys - all locks match, and both keys open them all.
Spare wheel, jack, wrench etc all in the boot.
Car had a hardtop fitted, which is not included - mushroom bolts and sidelatches are in place for another hardtop.
Things to take note of (sounds better than BAD THINGS!)
Exhaust chrome is a little tarnished.
Battery doesnt seem to hold much of a charge. Alt puts out good voltage. I'll give it a charge, think the stereo might need the remote/permenant live wires switching.
Alternator belt could do with replacing at next service.
Radiator top hose could do with replacing at next service.
Front tyres probably have 6 months to a year left of tread.
Whole car could do with a good T cut and polish.
V5 is due back any day from the DVLA - Will be here next week all being well. If you are desperate for this I can give you a full reciept for the car and fill in the V5 when it arrives, and even give you my new keeper blank slip as backup so you wont get charged £25 for a new V5.
Welcome to come poke around it, have a brew, nothing to hide - its by no means perfect, but its also bloody cheap.
I'm in Sandhurst, Berkshire - nice and easy to get to.
I'll consider swaps, part ex's, whatever, but cash wins. I've been on 2 stag do's and 2 weddings very recently, and am beyond skint now, have a car that needs aircon parts fixing, a motorbike needing work, and too many other things that cost more than they should.
Cheers.
