I think the 80 limit is a good idea. Let's face it, almost all cars on the road (including many retros) are going at about 80 down the motorway as it is. If you want to go slower ten you can, just keep left as much as possible. Well I would welcome the shortened journey time and being less likely to be done for speeding when I just want to get home on a quiet motorway, and I just have a 1.1 mk1 fiesta.

Jesus christ, I can't image many drivers of "retro" cars surviving a crash at 80mph..... If they're not going to survive a crash at 80mph then they're going to be pretty screwed over at 70mph anyway... And when was the last time you went on the motorway and observed everyone doing 70mph anyway? Surely this is a good thing, that the government are accepting and responding to the fact that cars are safer and can stop immeasurably more quickly than they could when the 70mph limit was introduced? IBTL.

basically they raise the speed limit to 80... which people done anyway... then people will simply do 90!
great idea but 90 on some little cars makes them curse word on petrol

Nobody is forcing anyone to do 80mph?

Horray for the speed limit going up - lets face, a lot of people used to chance not seeing a traffic car and sit at about 90mph all the time in the 1990's (me included), and you'd get away with it anyway - it's only these cameras that have slowed it down.
Personally, I'm tight and cruise at 60-70 a lot of the time anyway!
