lol I too look forward to seeing how thigns turned out
Goota think though hun, you'd have not got all this practise in paint had the grey disco behaved itself
must add in defence of old Landy's, my 109" has completed a not-too slow run from Leicester to london city airport yesterday, and back today, without a problem Despite nearly cooking us with heat from the exhaust! & the temp gauge being in the red most the time (voltage stabiliser is meh at reading, but its the only one i've found out of trying 8 that worked!)

In the meantime, you'll be wondering what has happened to the Grey discovery whos untimely and steamy end started this whole episode? Well, obviously it isn't ideal to have my truck with a set of big knobbly muddy tyres in the back just parked up in the big smoke? Is it? This morning, after relaying the story to my colleagues I set about making a few calls. One to make sure it was all still ok and wasn't missing me, then to a chap who had delivered a 109 with a snapped chassis to us earlier this year and had left his card saying something to do with hauling stuff around the country for cheap. Anyway a deal was made with the arrangement to deliver the truck on Tuesday or Wednesday, no worries. So, I phone eveyrone with a vested interest in the story to let them know. Of course I have to return the trailer. No problem, I'll just stick it on the back of our recovery Disco... Any problem with that? Yup, in the way of that is a 90 halfway through an engine transplant, also the old engine, all the necessary tools and engine bits and the engine crane. 5 wheels and tyres, 2 jacks, 2 drainers, an office chair and several bags of sawdust. OK, so we have another tow car right? Ex-military 109? No chance, NATO hitch. Series 2A 88"? Yeah right... Volvo 740... not road legal. Monza, no tow gear, not road legal. Series 2 109 tow truck... not on your nelly...... Monza 2, nope, in pieces.. Carlton? Nope, not legal despite tow gear... Series 2? Customers and needs gearbox an transfer box as they were full of water. Series 3 88" County? Rusty and broken and out of MOT TD4 Hahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahaha Disco 3.9 Auto wheelchair mobile? Not legal. Air Portable? Customers and not working as the gearbox is in the boot... 200 TDi Disco? Not legal and not been on the roadfor 2 years.. Range Rover Classic 3.9? Taxed, MOT'd and tow gear. Yay. So I drag the trailer out the way, extract the Rangie and back it up. One small hitch.... well, actually no small hitch, tow gear yep, tow electrics, yep ,NO FREAKIN' TOW BALL. No problem thinks I, I'll just take the one off the Disco I'm breaking. Literally just about to get it done and MonzaNikkis dad turns up with the TD5 to take the trailer back as he thought I'd be a bit busy/stressed etc. Yay for not quite father-in-laws... So off he went. 10 minutes later I realised I hadn't given him the ratchet straps . Anyway, I got a call to say the truck recovery wasn't going to be successful today (it's been collected though). I had visions of this: but it turns out he had to urgently get home... so tomorrow, Tuesday, is the day when it all comes together and I find my new wheels don't fit anything and I need a new engine, because lets face it, it's only had this engine in it for 3 weeks, it must be due.

ORSUM!! I really feel for you man, really do, I've done some ERT's (epic road trips ) and have had that stomach churning feeling caused by an odd noise or smell, but thankfully, and touch wood, I've been ok so far. Oh, and I think we should ban photos on RR from now on, cartoons are the future! ;D Hope something can be claimed back from "the mother of all weekends"

I was doing realyl well - just the glimmer of a smile here in the office, until I got to the part you mentioned fixing LR's for a living and I lost it....... As an almost veteran of european road trips I feel your pain - although some of the monster hauls I've done, none have gotten THAT stressful Hope your original disco is back without further issue. Many thanks for making my day......... work colleagues now chuckling along John

not to self- never, ever buy a land rover product. especially a discovery.
it sounds as though they're better at 'disovering' hard shoulders more than anything.......

Right, for now I reckon the end is in sight, thanks for bearing with me. Red Discovery is behaving itself and MonzaNikki is using it as normal (although it currently has the boot liner and the dogging guard from the grey on in it. Grey Discovery arrived on a trailer this morning courtesy of www.taurustransportservices.co.uk/for not a lot of money and a great deal less stress than the weekend. Bonus. We re-filled the radiator and bled the air from the system in the Disco and it ran for 4 hours, yes really, including a proper blast up to the shops and numerous sustained high revolution periods..... go figure. The only difference is that the thermostat is removed although it was open and quite hot when I took it out on the fricking roadside in the fricking dark in fricking London on bloody Saturday bloody night. I've even brought it home with me tonight! I mean, what the hell is going on with that? Nothing has melted, the engine sounds healthy, no smoke, head gasket seems intact, water pump pumps, fan fans. The wheels and tyres I originally set out to fetch are still awesome but are only going to fit on the Discovery Commercial that I haven't quite picked up yet..... Roaaaaadd Trrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip

???So the gray one just seemed to have a hissy fit! Maybe it really doesn't like London. Took the "big smoke" a bit too litterley!
Well, at least that big nasty gray cloud has a small silver lining.
Can we have a pic of the knobblys that caused all this?? Just so we can run a mile if we ever fancy a set??
Edit due to ayephone speed typing whoopsie.

So there we go. I hope my disastrous weekend has raised a smile or two, give it a few weeks and I'll be laughing about it. Really can't thank MonzaNikkis dad enough for the emergency callout, the folks who lent us the trailer (Richard and Karen), Taurus for a painless recovery in the end, Matey in the Disco at Hook Tesco for helping us get mobile and my Bro for Pizza.
And MonzaNikki for puting up with it all with a smile and a laugh until at least 5pm Saturday....
Cheers all.
