stogbandard - Hi there, thanks sharing your memories.
Kitsos also originally had a 4k 1.3 engine but it has always been a 5 speed. At the recent mot it was on 288,292km (179,136miles) so its doing well! The original 1.3 was replaced because it wore out hence the 5k 1.5 that's in it now. I'm not sure on the exact millage when the swap took place (It was before my ownership) but I know it hasn't done a lot since the 1.5 was fitted because Danai's dad bought another newer car to replace Kitsos shortly afterwards.
Your right there aren't many left, It's really hard to find parts for! Thankfully this car is pretty much rust free due to living in Greece and being garaged most of its life so hopefully Kitsos will be with us for a long time yet.
Sweetpea - Rust and MOT's is a slightly odd thing. I'm no expert but a garage explained it to me once when failing my old mk6 escort for rust. It mainly revolves around 30cm Spheres. Basically anywhere there is a brake, steering, suspension or seat belt mounting on the body imagine a 30cm Sphere. It can't be holed or severely weakened in those places but everywhere else is OK!!! (as long as its not sharp or so severely weakened its likely to affect steering or braking).
On Kitsos I seam welded a quick dirty plate over a small hole low down near a suspension mount for the rear axle. (I will be fully cutting out and replacing the metal there later so I had no problem with a temporary repair). I taped up the top section so the sharp edges were covered. That's it. It doesn't have rear seat belts which was handy in this case as those will often be near the rear arch.
All I can think is the bottom of your MR2's wing is near a suspension mount or it was sharp?
