yep all paint and yes It was what took most of the time ;D i'm just fussy and don't like stickers on the body leaves to many edges ;D

played about a bit with the rear one and did a fade out on the checkered bit was sure if it was going to look right but I think it worked quite well

the white is actually a Lexus pearl white xuralic

got a bit more done today felt like curse word last few days with a bad cold bug that's been going about so first day down there since paint and i'm still feeling rough so didn't do as much as really wanted but it is starting to take shape looking a little bit hot-wheels like now lol

got a bit more done today Mrs Nightmaresracing was down the workshop today doing her favorite job of helping with the flatting down so I managed to get the drivers side polished up . also got a few more bits done on the engine side just waiting a a couple of small parts and it should be ready to run up . had it turning over to check the oil pressure all is good there with 50+ on the starter so with a bit of luck it'll be a good motor though the compression was a little much for the poor old battery ;D

Just a quick on on the chequers, did you free hand mask them with fine line/get a vinyl cut and use that as a mask, or was it marked out and masked with fine line? Would love to learn some more about your awesome paint skillz.

cheer's it was done using a vinyl mask sort of a low tak version of normal vinyl the trick bit is that its done in 2 different colours and being dark its hard to see to line up one mask is the background then once that one is done the mask is removed and the second mask with the checkers laid over that then once that's done that's removed and a 3rd mask with the 383ci is laid on and that painted then all the masks are removed and the clear coat sprayed on not as hard as it looks just tricky

got a bit more done on the escort today would have done more yesterday but had to sort out the brakes on my daily driver so the escort got religated to sitting outside for the day

anyway back to the work I got done today
Mrs Nightmares spent a few hours doing some more of the flatting down think shes beginning to dislike doing it now ;D its long and hard work but the help it gives the finish is well worth doing I used to do it myself but due to problems with my hands it cause a fair bit of pain if I do it to much so Mrs nightmares does the large flat bits and I follow up with the tricky little bits and edges.
also did I little flatting on the tail lights as they were a bit scratched and generally grubby looking

another job I needed to do was to fit some of the bits you normally take for granted on a road car that this one with its no compromise just doesn't have one being mirrors , I didn't want big mirrors and I didn't want the usual bullet style mirrors so I went for a mirror we tried on the wife's old polo and I think they work great on here

and the second being a fuel gauge something this car really does need as the fuel really doesn't go far in it ;D

and the new gauge the rest of the gauges will be being changed over to this style at a later date so it made sense to get the fuel gauge in the new style rather than matching the old Phantom style gauges that I just don't really like

then the other jobs were to get the side windows back on the driver side and get the door fitted up . the windows again are going to be replaced as I don't like the way they have been done the windows are perspex and have discolored slightly I fixed this for a while by mopping them with some G3 rubbing compound also they are a little on the thin side and the method of opening the door windows means the window has a habit of trying to escape if its half opened as it just flexes and tries to get out so the will be replaced with sturdier lexan windows with bonded door windows with opening hatches

I wanted to smooth them off so went over the high bits and the ribs that run across the top and bottom of the indicator with a file then fatted the whole surface down with 800 grit wet n dry followed by 1500grit wet n dry then G3 rubbing compound and a mop to bring them back up now nice and smooth with no scratches if you wanted to keep all the writing on them then I would just lightly go over it with 1500 to get rid of the scratches then G3 and mop

Great build and cool looking car dude ,BUT get rid of the 383 ci sticker,leave the rest of the graphics on.Its like you are telling people your dick size ? hahhaah.No numbers straight graphics makes more impact.

I have been building cars for quite a while now and I think I know what looks right on a cars graphics wise. just because one person don't like a part of my car I'm not going to change it due to your opinion. as bastardchild said my car my way . If you don't like then don't looks its that simple really and if that was my dick size I would been very proud to tell people about it . Its a ford running a chevy engine stops numptys going what's it got in it mate

Amazing car and I can't believe how quickly you've transformed it - proper skills.

Something I've noticed is that the 383 numbers don't stand out really clearly as they are grey against a black & white background - perhaps a contrasting coloured pinstripe around the numbers would make them more noticeable? This is meant to be a constructive suggestion, not a criticism!
