Is it just me who gets irritated by these? Don't get me wrong, I think they are a good way to introduce yourself etc etc but I think there should be a place for them. I come here to see cool old cars. They are currently taking up three of the top eight spots on the general board, so perhaps we could have a noob section? We could put it next door to the Free Tax Petition section and the Help Me Steal A Car section? Have a cool old car:

You are completely welcome here and I don't mean to act like newbie threads "get in the way of my browsing" at all, it's just the way that threads are organised. Lately there has been an influx of new members - which is great for the forum but it has reached that point where I thought it was worth mentioning. Welcome to the forum!

I think my first topic was in Readers' Rides. Intro yourself, and your car at the same time?

I think a welcome section would be a good addition or maybe even just a welcome thread sticky'd at the top of the General Board, just keeps things tidy.

Thanks for your constructive post. Maybe I should clarify... The aim of this thread was to bring to light an idea that would tidy things up a bit, not to whinge (in fact I think thats part of the objective of this section of the forum). It was my attempt at constructivism. Maybe I should stop trying and we can just leave everything as it is forever.

it was only meant in jest mate
i do tend to agree that its a good idea to have either a section for new members or as someone suggested a sticky topic
but to be honest the threads just don't bother me enough to get wound up about it

I don't like separate welcome sections,.. which is why we don't have one.

Why do people need to introduce themselves at all?
If you've got a cool car, stick it in Reader's Rides. If you've found something worth sharing, share it on the general board.

i know i introduced myself more because i don't have a cool car, but i would still love to be able to get involved, its only the internet, but I'm 18 and most of my friends still think the coolest car they can get is an impreza.... i was the only guy in my college that knew what a capri was! Of course i now have a few more educated friends, but still, i'd rather say hello and make it look like i actually want to be a part of things, rather than dive straight in... its like a stranger sitting with you at the pub and starting to tell you all about his misses

It sounds like you're off to a far better start than your friends. It sounds like Retro Rides is the place for you and I hope you get to ride around in a retro very soon ;D You'll certainly be able to afford to insure one a lot sooner and a lot cheaper than any of your mates hoping for an Impreza

... its like a stranger sitting with you at the pub and starting to tell you all about his misses That's a reasonable analogy...except that you don't look weird sitting there without saying anything when no-one can actually see you (unlike the pub) and the guy in the pub wouldn't look any less weird if he strolled up and randomly said 'Hi, I'm new'. Enjoy the forum, get a feel for it and if you find anything that looks RR-tastic post away!

I find that introductory threads in a section of their own often get ignored. Take a look at Driftworks Newbie section, it's filled with topics with 0 replies. I think a sticky thread would probably go the same way... I notice introductory threads most when they mention what type of car they have in the title - I would probably find that I'd miss out on some cool stuff within an introduce yourself sticky.

I don't like separate welcome sections,.. which is why we don't have one. I cannot argue with that. Well played. Why do people need to introduce themselves at all? If you've got a cool car, stick it in Reader's Rides. If you've found something worth sharing, share it on the general board. Actually I wholeheartedly agree with these sentiments, thanks for taking the suggestion on board guys. I see the error of my ways I guess it was just the appearance of all the new member threads that precipitated this one. Actually they don't bug me that much anymore, I think I was just feeling grumpy when i started this one Have another cool old car
