We're having a complete change around on the driveway, so up for sale is my current daily driver - the Volvo V40. The other 2 cars in my sig will be up for sale soon too (although one is a bit too modern for you chaps!).
It's a good old workhorse that I bought earlier in the year to get me to work and for generally carting stuff around, and it's been great.
Engine
Volvo opted for the Renault 1.9 TD engine as found in the Laguna and probably a few other cars. It's done 156k, but is still going strong. I've just given it a service (oil, filter & glow plugs) so it's good to go for a while without worrying about. Hasn't used any oil or water.
Gearbox
This can be an issue on these cars, well more precisely the gearchance. Bushes within the mechanism can wear causing an incredibly sloppy change with lots of play. These were changed just after I bought the car, so no problems here. And no other problems with the box to report - slots into all gears no problem.
Interior
Little bit of wear showing after 13 years, but nothing serious. The car comes complete with e/f/w, e/s/r, e/m, r/c/l, integrated rear booster seats and Volvo CD/cassette player (fitted by me, and I have the code). Everything works as it should, except for one problem - the central locking doesnt work the boot, you have to use the key. I've checked and a little plastic arm has snapped so easy to replace if it bothers you.
It also has lots of air bags and side impact protection - so safe enough to be a cheap family bus! The airbag light on the dash goes off as it should - so no MOT worries next year!
Exterior
Unfortunately this is wear the car is let down. There's a dent on the the o/s/r arch, and a fairly large scrape/dent down the n/s/r door/arch. There's also a few scratches over the body. If you were fussed a new rear door would tidy the car up loads - and a bit of time with a touchup pen would make it even better but I was never really fussed. Doesn't look too bad after a wash so that's about all I've ever done.
There's a small patch been welded on the n/s sill, just above the plastic trim. It's a functional repair but not the prettiest. However it was a few weeks after buying the car before I even noticed it!!
I've also fitted a set of Volvo 15"alloys to replace the original steelies. They're not in the best condition, but they did smarten the car up quite well. One centre cap is missing.
Others
Front brakes were getting low when I bought it so I've recently fitted new discs and mintex pads which have given a decent feel to the brake pedal.
Comes with all the manuals - and even the service history is pretty much complete, with all the stamps from the Petersfield Volvo dealership up to 2008.
Only got one pic at the mo, but will take some up to date one's later if there's interest:
Only reasons I'm selling is that I want to get rid of my daily driver and TVR to replace them with a silly car that I can use everyday.
The price to drive it away is £550. Will let it go a bit cheaper if I put the steelies back on and also put the original cassette player back in (be warned that at least one tyre will need replacing on the steelies though!).
Shout if you have any questions or wanna have a look.
Cheers
