Kadettfest 2012, Ballina, Co. Mayo, Ireland

The second annual 'Kadettfest' will be held on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th May 2012 which is the May Bank Holiday in Rep. of Ireland.

We will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Kadett A which is the only model that we were missing this year.

This years event which was held in August saw 10 of the 11 Kadett/ Astra models from the pre-war Kadett, to the current Astra J model line out for a photo shoot at the old Asahi factory in Killala, near Ballina.
The previous day, a Road Run was held along the North Coast Rd. with a stop for food along the way.

Next years event hopes to be bigger and better with a Run again on the Saturday afternoon and hopefully a Pub Quiz on the Saturday night with the main event held in Asahi again on the Sunday incorporating an Opel/Vauxhall Auto Jumble.

We would like to see as many Kadett/ Astra and Chevette owners at this event to celebrate this incredibly successfull model.

Here's a proposed schedule for the weekend.

Sat 5th. Kadettfest Run.

10am - 11.30am.
Register @ Clarke's Auto Service, Killala Rd., Ballina, Co. Mayo.

11.30am - 1.00pm
Drive from Ballina to Belmullet via Pontoon, Lahardane, through Crossmolina & Bangor Erris.

1.00pm - 3.00pm
Grub @ gatewayleisure.ie/?page_id=162

3.00pm - 6.00pm
Drive out to Belmullet peninsula. Admire cars & view followed by return trip to Ballina along coastal road through Bellderrig, Ballycastle & Killala.

6.00pm - 8.00pm
Barbecue @ www.hotelballina.ie/

8.00pm on
Short Quiz. Some Opel General Knowledge & other questions on Run that Day.
After quiz a drivers choice of car of the run will be announced. Registration pack will include a form for each driver to select their car of the run with a 1,2 & 3 preference. Have a possible Perpetual trophy in the pipeline. This is open to every car that takes part in the run on Sat.

Sunday 6th. Kadettfest Static show @ Asahi plant

11.00am - 11.30am
Registration for newcomers.

11.00am - 2.00pm
Get cars into Line ups & take pictures i.e. All 10 models '37 to today, All 6 models Astra MK 1 - 6, One of every model Astra G or whatever else you want.

2.00pm - 5.00pm
Final line up of all cars & Autojumble.

5.00pm
Announce drivers choice of Car of the Run Kadettfest 2012 which is open to any make or model on the Run, and Car of the Show, Kadettfest 2012, but this prize can only be awarded to a Kadett / Astra model. All models welcome at the show though!

Here's report on this years event. Had a great weekend and really enjoyed meeting everyone. A hugh thanks to everyone for bringing out their cars. Such meets cannot happen without you. We got 10/10 models this year too which was a real treat & a fitting tribute as the Kadett A was launched 50 years ago. The car of the run was a very close affair. Enda Faherty's outstanding Kadett C was chosen on second preferences ahead of John Unkles immaculate Olympia. Apologies to Enda as I had not votes counted in time to present trophy as he was pressed for time. The car of the meet had a clear winner with Olivia as drivers choice. Worthy winners. Here's a few pics.
