Braking/Steering problems on my Datsun B310 Coupe

Hi all

Ive been driving my B310 about as a daily since I got it at the end of summer and its been a great little beast.

I have now come across some issues with the brakes and steering!!

Brakes:
The left front brake seems to seize up while on the move and get very hot. Maybe the caliper is not retracting correctly and not clearing the pads from the disk? Is there an easy fix or is it a strip down and fit new seals etc job? Where would be the best place to get a seal kit from?

Steering:
The steering has become very vague with a massive blank spot in the middle of rotation. It certainly wasnt like this when I first got it and seemed to appear all of a sudden?? I'm not to clever with steering boxes but have been told that they maybe adjustable and the slack can be tightened up?

Any Advice please?

@uncle, have you resolved these issues yet?

re:lh caliper. don't know until you take apart & check operation

re: steering box. i take it the car's suffering from what we call slop. you can try tightening the screw on the steering box, but you cannot tighten it too much else effort is increased

if that doesn't manage the problem, you'll need to inspect the other steering components for wear

The calipers will need checking for operation as Matt said above.

As for the steering box, I would check the balljoints etc. first before proceeding (and UJs in the column) and then check the box for slop.
