Citroen AX driveshafts- any experts in the house?

Hi folks,

Have just tried fitting a pair of driveshafts to my 1.5D AX...
For info, you can get the flat or tapered hub flange according to AX owners, depends on year/spec/what was on the shelf....
My local car spares place gave me a pair of new shafts which should be right for the car

Drivers side (longer of the 2 shafts) fitted fine, the one I took out has a square (not tapered) end.

Passenger side is too short (by about 2"), when fitted the end of the new shaft is flush with the hub - so no threads stick out to fit hub nut.

The only longer shaft my shop can find looks the right length but...
it has a tapered end for the hub (but the side I've already fitted isn't tapered)
is not "paired" in the catlogue with the one I fitted, so I have "normal" on one side and "oddball" on the other (is this usual?)
Could it be somebody (one of the previous owners??) has fitted a scrapyard "taper" hub and shaft, possibly to fix crash damage or to save buying new parts???

hmm, get on ebay and search what they got and the pics etc,.

I think both flat and tapered are the same length, sounds like you've got the wrong drive shaft?

Whats it like compared to the old one?

flat/tapered was a VERY late 106/saxo thing (post 98 or 2000 IIRC) all ax's SHOULD be the same...

entirely possible a late hub was fitted, if so the shaft the factors showed you with the correct length and taper CV would fit.

the odball shaft sounds like an incorrectly packaged item, I'd get it back to the factors and see if they have any others, the outer CV on both sides are identical.

Now all working fine, using a shaft that's supposed to be for a 1.0 106.
