Just changed my classic multicar insurance over from one car to another.

"That will be £31."

So I mention thats a whacking admin fee, or is there additional premium, which I can't see as the "new" car is older, lower value and smaller engine.

"Thats £15 admin fee, £16 for the vehicle"

Its not an additional vehicle, its a replacement, so its £16 higher premium for the remaining 2 months of the policy?

"No, £15 admin fee, £16 for the vehicle"

Erm...

so that's 2 admin fees?

I'm slightly confused and £16 lighter than I was expecting and as I have 2 more car changes to come shortly I'm going to be lighter yet at this rate.

Anyone any explanation for this?

What joem83 said. It seems to be the latest way to scam you out of money. Unfortunately, address changes are also subject to these admin 'fees', so if you want to change anything at all, expect a £20+ bill.

yeah they want £20-40 do help the paying customer , but when you don't want em next year they'l happily send out 4 begging letters pleading you to come back

I've always felt very positively towards this and my previous insurer but that just seems a bit, well, naughty.

haha i changed mine with 3 months to run and got a refund of £3 woo hoo then renewd and it was £15 cheaper almost fell over good job i was sitting down

When I transferred my policy from the Metro to the Golf, the admin fee was £50, that FIFTY POUNDS. It was previously £30, but it went up. Needless to say, I went spare- "That's a lot of money for some ******* ink and paper, AY IT???"

Oh, and it's £15 for an address change, too.

yep unfortunately everyone's jumping on the bandwagon of rising admin fees. They see that we NEED insurance, so basically screw us out of as many pretty pennies as possible. considering insurance was supposed to be going down (partly due to them being forbidden to pass details onto claim companies) it doesnt appear so, if they're forced to drop prices, they'll raise admin fees, guaranteed, screw the money out of us one way or another
