Highlight of the Summer season

So, the show season draws to a close. What was everyones highlight. Maybe not even a show but an achievement or plan accomplished?

And what went totally pear shaped?

The highlight for me, without shadow of a doubt, was a two week trip to Austria for the Woerthersee Tour - a HUGE watercooled VW event. We stopped at the Wolfsburg Museum/Autostadt, and the Porsche museum in Gmund too... Pics in the gallery! An absolutely amazing time, I'm SO looking forward to going again next year!

The Retro Cars show was an unexpected success - I really didn't know what to expect, but getting to meet some faces on here for the first time and enjoying all the lovely cars was fantastic!

Low point was probably waking up absolutely frozen in my tent at the Volksworld show... The hangover wasn't helping! ;D

Wörthersee was a definite Winner (and associated 'Pilgrimage' ;D)

Other highpoints being VWoodstock and VW Action TOP WEEKENDS indeed...

Low points (not many) Dan (the previous owner of my G/f's Bus) shattering the gearbox on the startline at Bug Jam, and not managing to break into the 14s

The realisation at GTi Festival, that MOST of the watercooled volkswagen show cars from this country don't have anywhere near the quality/innovation/attention to detail that they do in the Fatherland (and europe in general)

but perhaps the biggest downer this year, was the fact that it could well be the last year where VW Action is a weekend show (if it continues at all!)

OK, I haven't been able to get out and about as much as I'd have liked this summer what with doing up the house (at least it's all clean and white as opposed to the rat-look it had before!!!), but for me high point was definately RCS at the Pod. Top day!!

Obviously, picking up the beamer for beer money, cruising around and feeling good scores pretty high too.

Low point: The knebworth dog poo incident.

RCS was a pleasant day too!

Was looking through the show review in the magazine a few weeks ago and found the pic of the Purple bug pulling that MASSIVE wheelie.... and can see Abi (my g/f) taking a photo in the grandstand, and me sat down next to her! ;D

High point - driving to, and around, the Nurburgring in my 16v. Absolutely amazing place, car perverts heaven!

Another high point to come - going to Wolfsburg/Autostadt etc next week! Flying to Berlin and hiring a Mk5 Golf TDI to drive around in! ;D

Pear shaped... er... nothing yet!

My highlight was Stanford Hall...but that was May, so not really summer, if it has to be summer then it would be the SOC national camp....

Low point- discovering the new leak in my Skoda!

High point. Imp National.

Low point missing the Retro cars show to get my Nymph finished and getting nothing done.

Highlights:

Always finding that rare or unexpected car at a show or scrapyard!

Meeting some of you guys at the Retro show was pretty cool too. Nice to meet like-minded lunatics.

Burning up chavs in their butterfly powered Orions.

Completing 100K fun filled miles in my 106 Rallye without any major hassles.

Lowlights:

The sight of a once very solid vandalised '72 cherry in Sussex. Kids stole it, then smashed the windows. The council then clumsily hi-ab'd it onto their truck.

Neighbour up the road scrapping his 1969 Audi 100S coupe because his wife didn't want it 'messing up the garden'.

Replacing the lump back into my 120A to find that I'd forgotten to put in the sump gasket. Bloody idiot.

This summer. Bit wet.

I think the biggest highlight is the attention an old motor gets when you cruise around in it. I find that the kind of people who come up and talk to me about my Imp when they see it are more the kind of people who are genuinely interested as opposed to purist gits who come up an tut-tut at my non original seats and wheels.

The weather's a definate low point, it wont stop raining round my way!

HIGH has to be blating through france in the Retro cars french chatau tour ;D ;D ;D and the LOW would be doing it in my not quite so retro Celica because the Sapporo had steering problems and no mot

Too right, but I think I might have soaked up a little to much of the local wine as well , on the plus side I don't think any of the french garyboys had seen a car with 18" rims

That's always a good thing, it means the local chavs and neds won't develop in the same horrible way they did here! ;D (ie inspired by Le Fast and Le Furious, and it's sequel, Deux Fast, Deux Furious! ;D)

Not at all, the french chavs just had shockingly bad graphics and lights all over thier cars with curse word poor body kits/spoilers but with standard steels or curse word 14" tsw stealth style alloys, I think on the right clean, straight and low car a set of huge wheels can look the nuts!! it's mostly when people go over the top with everything else they look wibblepoo or when they have a car that looks like a 4x4 just so they can squeaze the biggest wheels possible under the arches

Spanking Lotus Elises at Cadwell Park in my 510 ;D

RCS...most interesting event I've been to for ages:)

Getting a mint 49,000km SR20DE with variable valve timing with the gearbox plus all the electrics for a paultry £80 Next year it'll be in my 510, woohoo!

Putting a modified CA18DET in the mega bargain £100 Silvia I bought off eBay and it going like curse word of shovel (witnessed 145mph in it before I chickened out ;D ;D)

Blagging my way out of a speed camera fine.


Low points...

Not getting my Javelin fixed (again)

Not getting my turbo Prairie fixed (soon though... very soon )

Not getting my Datsun Roadster fixed for the summer.

My cheap-as-chip local shot blast company going out of buisness

Being constantly broke because of cars Some things never change.

850 blowing its head gasket was a bummer and dynamo nearly falling off on the motorway was exciting!

Upside, got 2 phone calls about cheap 850s for parts , one has roll cage ,disc brakes, 850 coupe engine ,yum yum!! hopefully be able to make 1 car from 2

Goodwood revival
the now silly plans for my beetle
getting my Mk2 70k mile golf for £200.
the journey to RCS - so much sideways action in my mates midget ;D

Low Points
not getting to Le Mans
so much bloody rain!
not finishing rebuilding my motorbike
the further delay to the beetle caused by the silly plans.

Highlights of this Year,..

Starting this Forum/Site and our stand at Retro Cars Show are far and away the best things about this year.

Although another highlight for me might be round the corner,.... crypitically,...

Doing RCS in my mk3 Golf because I still have no Retro Car!!!
