wow, id forgotten about that gauge hahahahahha,looks so damn cool in there. nothing more retro than led square lights. you could put some light tint window film on the back of the Perspex cover . would be smoked but the leds would show through.
whatever you do, that sunpro looks the nuts. love the md too,got me a couple of md players but the Walkman type. great for ripping music off youtube

I had thought of some window tint on the back of the perpsex, or even a coat of black aerosol paint

My last post on the previous page now has a video of the gauge pod booting up and doing a self test

Was contemplating using the oil temp circuit for the auto transmission instead of engine oil, or using it for both with a switch between the two

I took a few breaks when doing "snotty". sometimes its good to have a few weeks off the car.can get you down looking at it not done.doing the internal bits is fine but if I spent a whole day doing internal bits only to look back at the car I'd think....it looks the same,it can get you down..the hard parts done and mechanically it's sorted so you've broken the back of the rebuild........will you be faster at santa pod? Probably...........but I'll have a damn good try all the same.put the PlayStation away and get the tool box out!

Its not the car that's got me down though, thats just a time juggling act. Its the other expensive thing in life thats done that.
The playstation is a good distraction, and doesnt owt at the mo either

As for who will be quicker up the strip, that'll be you at the mo as my CV joints and drive shafts aren't exactly top notch

Managed to do a bit of fiddling on the car tonight. Trying to tidy up the mess of wires behind the glovebox, and remove the aerial wiring from the nearside to go to the drivers side.

Connected up the battery to see if anything would let the smoke out of the wires and to fire up the stereo (most important bit for me!)
And managed to crank some oil pressure in to the engine as well whilst the fuel system is still incomplete

Well, this weekend I finally managed to make a start on the bodywork on the rear end of the Granny

Saturday was a bit of a waste of time though, as the weather looked hit and miss I decided to do a bit of wiring tidy up and soldering. Only I forgot the gas powered soldering iron and heat shrink connectors

So, the dubious bluetooth equipped stereo from eBay was installed and given a thorough testing whilst I had a tidy up inside the car and sorted out some wire routing (and got a flickr account that hopefully works)

Sunday I managed to get a layer of filler on the rear arches and knocked that down, including going to Halfords twice (the first time without my wallet!)
Not got any electrical sanders at home, so it was knocked back with a sanding block and 60grit paper. Dad then told me there is a little electric sander in his shed I could use although there was only 24ogrit pads for that which clogged up way to quickly.
So I gave the sanded back areas a quick coat of primer and covered the ole bus up for the night

I skimmed my rear arches too. I used a plasterers trowel to get a wide smooth even layer on and the smaller metal scrapers for around the arch lips, then I used a homebase special ordinary sander (oblong sanding face)and standard sheets of paper from Halfords cut into three pieces. made the job so much easier.you sorted a painter yet??

If your doing all your prep I can recommend buying Abranet sanding blocks and a mix of sanding strips
Awesome stuff, the sheets last for ages
Really good for getting stuff flat by hand

Got a bit more done this weekend. Picked up the nearside front wing from Dave to give it a clean out and get it ready for some welding repairs. Gave the offside front wing a coat of primer and rubbed down the filler on the rear quarter panels and gave them a dusting over. Need to get some finer filler next and then I can fill the little gaps and give each wheel arch a smear to knock back to shape as well then

I'm almost happy with the lines on the drivers rear lower quarter, although it does try my patience with using filler.
Bung a load on sort of the right shape, let it dry, rub it down to shape/size til it's almost there. Then stand back and try to decide if it is the right shape with the sunlight glaring down on it




Part of me is annoyed that the line isn't quite there, but I'm also torn by the fact the bumper hides most of the swage line 





And managed to get a bit of heat shrink on to the newly run copper core battery feed from the back. Also did the connections to the trip switch, the battery leads next to the battery and the sub amp wiring

Still a bit miffed at the typical British weather at the mo. whenever there isn't enough time to do stuff after work, it is lovely clear skies. Come the weekend and it's overcast or spitting

Would love to have it done for the OhSoRetro show in Margate, but that's not very likely at the mo, as there is still no sign of the bloomin' fuel tank work being done

Will definately need to take to the brake discs with a flat screw driver (or wire wheel in the angry grinder!) to clean them up. Think it may be a bit too much to expect them to clear themselves through usage

you using a small sanding block? use a normal diy sander like I did.youll get your edges spot on.it gives you a flat sanding area around 5" x 8" and that's more than enough to let you run along the edges.its what I used on mine and my arches are pretty much bang on

It was a while ago we went to the deer in the park meeting ChasR
Was a good day though. Looking forward to getting the damn thing back on the road, although with my luck that'll be just in time for the winter weather

I am using a 6inch sanding block mr, and also got a DA electric sander and a rectangular electric one on loan at the mo.
Just being a beginner at this sanding mallarky more than anything is a pain, and not knowing how much pug to mix up and slap on at a time

More or less happy with the arches themselves, just the rear of the quarter panel to sort. And removing all the trims and filling the dents in the doors and replacing the drivers door skin to do

When I asked the dent master man many years ago, he point blank said no
The trouble with older cars is the metal is thicker and their tools can't just tweak the little dinks out. Whether there is much truth in that I don't know, but sounds plausable
