1984 Granada BOA; small progress & Civic 25/10/24

Ordered a pair of horns yesterday, they arrived about 1pm today, so got those wired in and fitted (Hella branded as well!)



Also had all the pads out and cleaned and brake greased those.(and I know before and after are different sides)
Not often I take to the discs with an angle grinder...



And after



And I think I may need to wind the coilovers up a tad



Also received an adjustable flasher relay, to cure the hyper flash of the indicators, only to discover it doesn't work!
So I made up 3 leads and tried it reversed in the relay holder. That cured it, so I shall take it to work tomorrow and cobble up a lower profile solution

So, after a hectic day at work (mostly doing a clutch job on a Ford S-Max) I managed to not do my own mot
Martin did a sterling job, even giving the headlights a slight tweak back to level and it...

Sadly old cars go wrong,just part of older car ownership.at least you can fix it.have you messaged Vic re the rubber part? He may have one knocking around.I can ask him if you want.he had most mk2 parts stashed

There's no doughnuts for it to eat I'm afraid

I had just launched it from the traffic lights just before where I had managed to abandon the car, there was an over rev like someone had dipped the clutch and no more further forward motion and a lovely racket from the back end. Managed to coast up that road, and then decided it best to try and make the car accessible to work on/investigate. The nearside outer CV joint had shed all 6 ball bearings, caused by the inner joint on the nearside coming loose and only held on by one bolt!

Russell, my work colleague managed to locate all 6 bearings, as I was under the car wrestling with an allen key getting the driveshaft unbolted.

Got the shaft off, and tried to rebuild the joint, only to remember that you have to take the CV off the shaft to allow articulation to pop each bearing back in

With the realisation that I hadn't got a pair of circlip pliers, Russell managed to open the circlip with my multi tool and an open ended spanner and we were in business. All back together and ready to bolt back on.

And I can safely say, my car tool kit now needs blue roll and rubber gloves in it after being almost covered up to my armpits in horrid black grease!!

A very nice man just up the road I was at the exit of allowed me to wash myself off with a bowl of water, washing up liquid and some suger at his garden table (his missus wouldn't have been very understanding with me making the house black ) and I felt better, even if I wasn't 100% clean.
Back on the road, all the way along the A27, through both tunnels of the journey and almost back to Hawkhust, and there was a lack of drive after having straightened up out of a junction and the outer CV gave up again! This time I think the cage inside had died from the lack of clinical cleanliness from the rebuild and had had enough. An hour waiting fo rthe recovery truck to turn up, and I was eventually home with the car unloaded at 9pm, having left Goodwood moments after @quatermass and blackpopracing
