Between laziness and general car destruction, my readers ride threads are always a bit curse word. So I'm trying to turn over a new leaf, I'm going to try and keep the Shovit in good working over and chronical my misadventures with it. So....... After an early start and a fairly lengthy bus/train journey I've pick up a new car, to be precise it's Dave aka Butterz old Chevette. Not really sure what else to say really other than I really enjoyed the drive back from Bristol despite the fact 70 feels very busy and buzzy. I got back to Brixham in good time with no dramas at all. Quick photo of the car home safe and sound..... Plans are to: get some wheels probably weller or starmags, fix the leaky carb, fit electric ignition and keep on top of the tin worm. Other than that just enjoy it! Thanks Robin

+1! I loved it on the 'penta' alloys (yeah, I know they were actualy Comps but.... ) and reckon the starmags will look AWESOME on it. Not too sold on the idea of Wellers to be honest. Glad to see you back behind the wheel of something older and cooler. Bookmarked and looking forward to updates, antics and general Chevette shapes tomfoolery!

Thanks guys I only hope I do this car justice! My first trial and tribulation, the car developed a knocking noise from the front left which thankfully turned out to be a slightly loose wheel nuts, I guess the run back from Bristol must have loosened them. I took a trip over to Halfords today to use the paint computer, after inspection of the plate and a bit of messing around it appears the paint code is 2BB which is Crystal Blue. I got a small touch up stick mixed up to check it against the car. Seems to be a fairly good match, well a better match to the original paint than the colour the bottoms of the doors have been painted anyway! I also removed the black stick on pin stripes which seem to reveal about 3 or 4 layers of paint in some areas ;D

After having a boso-esque pipe on my old Rover 216 I fancied giving it another go, but instead of using a single upswept pipe I wanted to make a more substantial attempt. So I got a bend and a 2m length of exhaust pipe from work and set about with the grinder and MIG welder. Pics Yep the bend fits the Butterz spec exhaust.... .... and that's 2 meters of pipe. Chop... ...and weld A little more welding. Test fitting. Okay it might be a bit "scene" depends if you take that to mean good or bad. But I'm happy with the result, plus it's good practice with the MIG which I'm still getting to grips with. Just need to sort out some kind of bracing/bracket to support the extra weight of the silly pipe.

you putting a drain hole at bottom? Yeah I haven't yet but I will do, when I paint it. Not sure if I shoud paint the pipe silver or something more lairy. Also due to this thread: retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=129863I've secured some wheels 7x13" wellers, according to the eBay ad they are mini fitment so I may have to either use wobbly bolts or get them redrilled. Anyway they seem to have a nice bit of dish on them. Thanks to markbognor for the heads up and micrat AKA GSParts for hopefully picking the wheels up. Hopefully my next update will include some kind of welding type action!

I'm dissapointed they wont be going under a red micra - they will however look even more the business under a mostly blue chevette.

As promised my update includes a bit of welding, only a tiny bit granted but I'm not that experienced at welding and this seemed to be a good place to start. Just behind the drivers door was an extra lock barrel with some spade connectors on the back, I guess it's for some old alarm system maybe? Lock removed.... Template made... In place... Zap, zap... And ground back... Then I sprayed on a little etch primer and gloss black to seal it from the elements ;D next step is the battery tray! In at the deep end, fingers crossed I can make a panel that looks somewhat original Right after that it gets a bit more exciting firstly once again thanks to markbognor and Micrat, the second of which I'd strongly recommend his services GS Parts excellent service. BOOM! The poorly listed "mini wheels" actually turned out to be 4x100 and not 4x4" (4x101.6) massive winnnnar! Easy PCD helps to check, yep deffo 4x100 My local tyre fitters kindly, trial fitted a 155/80 to the 7" wide wheel Little bit of stretch 'n' poke So there was only one thing left to do..... Busy day!
