Hey peeps, the mother is won round to the Rover 3500 idea. However I need to make a couple of modifications to make it viable as an everydayer. Stuff like getting a 3.9 with electronic ignition in there, perhaps air con, bigger brakes - that kind of stuff. I would do this stuff myself but I need it to work after the work is done ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) So does anyone know of any Rover specialist who would do this kind of work, and not screw it up? Need to not have reliability issues due to bodged workmanship. p.s. somewhere kind of south of northampton would be nice. p.p.s what kind of PCD do these old girls have? thanks for any help. **edit** typos.

Jensen Interceptor has the same pattern, no? Tigran.... These people are near us & do alot of work on 'prestige classics' including modernisations like you propose. Never used them myself, but have heard some favourable stories ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) J.K Engineering _ The Old Bus Garage Langford Rd, Biggleswade, SG18 8NL 01767 318 899 HTH ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Loads of stuff has 5 x 5" PCD. But not the Cherokee, thats 5 x 4.5"
Austin taxis, Westminsters, BMC Landcrab, full scale Imperial models, most Impalas and some Caprices, full size Buicks, old generation RWD Cadillacs, Oldsmobile B body line, Jeep Grand Cherokee, some GMC trucks, Chevy Astro, GMC Saffari, most Lincolns, some larger US fords, Mercury, etc. LDV Convoy, Leyland Sherpa, Rover SD1, P5B, P5, P6, P4. IIRC Jensen Interceptor is 5" also.
There will be a bunch of other stuff I can't recall right now.
Whats the obsession with converting nice easy numbers like 5" into stupid communist metric like 127mm? 114.3mm makes me laugh. Do you people still use miles, galllons or anything?

Alistair, still use miles, gallons etc etc just been brought up with pcd in mm's - so that's what it's all memorised as.
Re: the carb - surely not!

More reliable possibly but the twin-carb set up doesn't half guzzle fuel! Early V8s had hi-comp heads so need lead substitute and were originally designed for 100 octane fuel. Mine ran fine on 95RON with a lead substitute - never bothered with an octane booster. An engine upgrade will almost certainly mean a gearbox upgrade also. The auto (certainly the earlier Borg Warner 35) could only just handle the power and the manual was in the same boat. I do dream of a P6 with a later auto box, upgraded engine and a nice paint job! Here's one with Jeep alloys. You do need spacers. www.p-six.co.uk/alloys/cherokee.php

dolly - do you mean the original 3.5's, or the 3.9's?
On another note those grand cherokee wheels looks real nice tucked up in those arches.

early 3.5s (and I thought it was only the ones used in the P5B?) were 10.5:1 CR which required good old 5 star leaded fuel. The later cars (from 1972 or 1973 onwards) all are lower CR. You can get a composite head gaket whcih drops a 10.5 Rover down to 9.7 or so.
I ran my P5B on LRP with just a couple of degrees of retard and it seemed fine at that. I would imagine that BP Ultimate or Optimax would do the trick on pretty much stock timing.
