I hear you there. I'd hate to see them or the tories in power, so'll I'm voting for neither, even if one of them is bound to win. I might go for the Scottish Socialists, they're hardly committed socialists and I don't agree with much of what they say but they're better than the money grabbing con men that are the big parties.

I moved to france from UK some time ago. This is exactly the kind of thing which reminds me how lucky I am. Ratdat's comments are spot-on - this is just the kind of sly, underhand taxation which I despise about the UK and the people who run it. Once this charge is introduced it will go up and up and up every year and before you know it you'll be paying £150 per year just to keep something you already own, which requires NO attention even from a keyboard minion at the DVLA, on your own property. It's disgraceful. PROTEST!!!!!!
I see the link on the dvla website is not working, making it very difficult to do your research.... surprise...

Dosent parliament have a classic car car club? I think it does. Could be worth contacting the MPs involved to help fight the DVLA.
From the 1st of this month all public buildings had to be easily accessible for disabled people and now it looks like the disabled will have to pay some sort of road tax! The goverment gives with one hand then takes with the other!!

AS I said before, this proposal is most likely the govenrments back door way to introduce continuous taxation on motor vehicles. AQnyone notice what other unpopular policy they are working toward with this too?
The abolition of licence application fees for new drivers as a way to encourage people to get a driving licence....
The recall and issue of photcard licences...
The 10 year mandatory replacement of licences..
Yup...those national ID cards which nobody wanted are on the way too folks!
I seriously suggest everone fills out the online response for NOW and let them know how we feel. This is a major issue and the potential annual charge is just the tip of the iceberg. Faced with an annual charge on that old car sat in the garden, how many people will just scrap them, do you thin? That's right... I think the government have finally found a way to get rid of older cars for good.

If you brake the law during a protest it looks bad on the cause your fighting for. Ask the pro hunt lobby, they took the argument away from what they beleve to make an argument on parliament security.

Seriously though, isn't it getting like that? Soon privacy won't exist, we'll all be wearing electronic tags like convicted rapists, we'll be taxed to bankruptcy for having old cars (must be trying to encourage us all to give up individuality or something) and if they got their way we'd probably all have a number instead of a name. See what I'm getting at? WE'VE WOKE UP IN A GEORGE ORWELL NOVEL! Half expecting the thought police to burst through the door any moment! DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER (MR BLAIR)
