Hi, everybody! Hello from Russia! Sorry for my English .... but.... I think that here and I have a possibility to tell about my project - restoration of a retro car the Moskvich 407 (1963). Meet this car today in my city is almost impossible. For 3 years my passion for this car, I only once met on the street Moskvich 407. Perhaps this was once my Moskvich (the color very similar.) Among my childhood memories this car is irrelevant. I fell in love with Moskvich, when I saw such car my elderly neighbor in the parking lot. He uses the car on the weekend - goes to the dacha. His car was in poor condition but he's a fan of his car. And I'm fell ill retro ... And this car is almost a copy car of my neighbor. Look - it is impossible not to fall in love! And here's another some photo Moskvich 407 for your acquaintance. To be continued?

Greetings from England Viktor, welcome to Retro-Rides! I do love the look of these, though I've never seen one in the flesh. We got the later 412 over here from 1969 onwards, which proved very popular for cost-conscious buyers, especially after the Arab Oil Crisis of 1973. Looking forward to seeing yours progress!!

I am very pleased to hear here good Russian language. For the writing of the text, I use a translator Google. But I sometimes have difficulty. Yesterday evening at home I was without the Internet. I hope today I will prepare a sequel.

So, I continue .... I found this car on the Internet in 2010. It was a far away - in other city - 360km away (~ 220 miles). There's my wife's parents live, so I go there sometimes. The car was in an interesting condition. It was completely dismantled. Almost to a man screw. I have to collect the constructor. Of course this is a major drawback. But the condition of the body was good! Once upon a time former owner wanted to restore the car. He repaired body panels. Damaged by corrosion parts almost all renovated. Unfortunately, after the man died. Cars in this condition was in the garage for about 15-20 years. His son decided to sell the car and placed an advertisement on the Internet. The car I bought quite cheap and it cost as much as I expended money on fuel to deliver it to my city. Also, the car had new body parts and other new spare parts. I also found one more car that became a donor parts. Even on the second car I study its structure, because my car is pulled down and some body parts are already altered, unfortunately.

Unfortunately the work is slow. I can do the project for 2-3 hours in the evening after work. I have the weekend to it more time, but not always. I also have a dacha I think many people here have the same problem with the time If it is not their official job. In 2010 I did official registration of papers for the car and looking for parts. In 2011 I studied problems body renovated and engine and I started preliminary assembled body. I started body repair only in 2012 when I bought a welding machine and learned to weld. And I must say it is very exciting!

Now more about my car. Pre-assembly of doors. Please note that the old owner did sandblasting bottom and doors. He repaired body panels and welded many patches. He used in gas welding. I think it is not very good. Cleaned surfaces on the outside of the body painted green protective primer. Cleaned parts are in very good condition. Some places traces of gas welding. All repairs are not completed. Many patches installed overlapping. Some details were not protected from corrosion after welding and rusty. In the upper part of the engine compartment was incorrect geometry. I straightened the body diagonally with jack. Trying on new panels and doors from the donor. It is my first retro car. I've never had body repair. But I think I can do this! To be continued ... Next sills...
