Hello all!!
**apologies in advance for very long thread - lots to explain!!)
In Feb I bought this alfa: retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=bugmot&thread=123252&page=1#1524646
I'm now looking to get rid of it, for a newish large estate car for new dog and long journeys
Just wondered if anyone thinks it's above scrap value?
2.5 v6 113k miles
When I bought it I replaced (upgraded) to an aftermarket oil coolers (APS one), replaced leaking lines with proper rubber hose and hose clamps, fitted a new high power halfords battery, two new khumo tyres, refitted the backbox with a suitable diameter flexible exhaust link pipe, and replaced both fron t down sections (slightly badly...) the work fine but blow slightly leading to a slight whistle. Air con bearing had gone so replaced bearings but had to permnently remove the aircon clutch plate - so air con does not actually work - but blowers and heaters do! Most interior lights had bulbs removed as was causing a battery drain problem and I had to fix in a rush - so pulling all the bulbs seemed to do the trick : D. Also replaced drivers side window mechanisms and motor as last onew faulty.
Car has MOT and Tax until Feb '13
Engine and gearbox seem fine
Car known to have play in front wishbone bushes (on last 2 or 3 MOTs but still passed) although there is now a creak / sqeaky sound front right hand side of car - not had time to investigate
NOTE- the car has lots of battle scars, dents, sratches, dings, and has had a low impact front knock with a small crease across the bonnet (just about see in the picturs from above link) bumper split slightly and touched up and they replaced the headlight which broke) - I have had the bumper off and it's structurally all straight!
So Good points:
2.5 v6 engine and box with receipt for a recent cambelt (just the belt must have been fitted by owner)
Brembo front brakes
2 recent front tyres
ICS works - with code provided
Quite a few new bits
No error symbols
Drives fine, uses no water, few drips of oil as expected, but very minor.
Bad:
Suspension creaks - posibly related to the know play in wishbone bushes (requires new wishbones - unsure whether top or bottom though)
Exhaust blows
Aircon pump clutch removed
Most panels dented - but useable
Interior has a fair few scratches, stains, marks and scuffs.
Can't think of much else noteworthy
Been used daily for a 5 miles round trip every weekday since Feb and only let me down when I collected the car due to the oil cooler pipes worsening so I got picked up by AA to prevent and engine damage
What do we think? Scrap it, worth selling for breaking? rat car? engine donor?
From looking about seems that the follow would be easily achievable (but I havent space, time or inclination to break really).
As a very minimum for the bits (assumiong ebay tells no lies)
£75 Wheels (5 alloys) 2 kuhmos only done 1000 miles
£100 Brembo front brakes
£150 2.5 v6 engine, box, ECU etc
£100 window regulators, switch gear etc
£100 for the shell??
anyway - opinions welcomed
Thanks!!!!
Duncan
