For sale today is my modified, yet relatively stock looking, 1968 Pontiac Firebird. It has been built up as a street/strip car, has a long MOT, is free to tax and runs and drives well.
Externally the car's pretty much standard barring the Crager Soft 8 steel wheels, lowered suspension and chrome exhaust tips. It's a similar story inside, with it looking stock apart from a Hurst ratchet shifter and some additional gauges.
It's a very solid car and one that's proven reliable. You can leave it parked up for a long time, come back to it, turn the key and it'll fire up. I've not noticed any fluid leaks, it doesn't use any coolant or oil and it doesn't overheat, even in heavy traffic on hot days. It starts easily, hot or cold, and doesn't suffer from any oil pressure issues or any other mechanical oddities. Even the handbrake works well.
Around town it's quite docile and it's more than happy just cruising around. Thanks to a Hotchkis suspension package it handles well, with a relatively firm ride and minimal body roll. It has power steering, vented front discs and recently rebuilt rear drums so it's not difficult to drive. With the current cam and intake combination it starts making real power after 3,500RPM and it has no trouble unsticking its rear ten-inch wide drag radials if you want it to.
Bad bits? It's 44 years old and has been around the block a bit. It's had paint at various points, bits of welding here and there and it's got a few scars. It needs some interior trim refitting, a few bits tidying up, the heater isn't fantastic but works, odd jobs like that really. Nothing major though, which is always a relief.
The Firebird comes with a fair amount of paperwork, some spares and some new detail parts as well. Recent work carried out includes a rear differential rebuild, new handbrake cables, the installation of a modern rear main crank seal, a full service (transmission fluid, transmission filter, oil and filter, diff fluid, brake fluid, coolant check) and a tuning session on a rolling road to ensure that it's not running lean or detonating.
It'd make an ideal weekend racer, or just a fun car to cruise around in. First generation Firebirds are also quite rare in the UK and make an interesting alternative to a Mustang or Camaro.
The full specification is as follows, and all of the parts mentioned have less than 3,000 miles on them:

I think those are the important bits. If you've any questions, or if you want to see more pictures, please feel free to ask. Viewings are welcome and the car's always ready for a drive.
I'm open to sensible offers and may considering interesting part-exchanges, although I'd prefer an outright sale for the time being.
Best regards,
Lewis
