They normally have a hook or eye at the top that hooks onto something overhead, under the tube there is a hook that raises and lowers on a cable from the winch, My mate used one for years as an engine hoist, I don't think it ever let him down. only downside it you need 2 hands to work it so you cant guide the engine in or out, so its a 2 man job, If it was closer, I would seriously be tempted

This hoist is still available if anyone is interested, open to offers. located in County Durham. hoist has hook at the top to fasten hoist to ceiling beam etc, then cable comes out and is attached with hook, rotate handle and Bombs away, (or engines up)
